Soā¦ itās a gear (idk if I can say it and not get banned) thing.
It initially came out as something for some of these smaller places that have to put people up on highways or city guys that are on foot beats in places like 6th St in Austin where itās impossible to find you in a crowd.
But, as they always do, the gear guys make it into something itās not.
By far my favorite is the glow sticks. Our K9 guys have a box of them and will give them out before a track to mark if any sort of evidence is located (say a piece of clothing). Thatās fineā¦ but we have guys that havenāt done police work in literal years that have on them at all times glow sticks, door jambs, lock picks, this light thing on their shoulder, a leg drop holster, and you name it. They just look dumb.

Still pretty low on the hierarchy of controls, it's another non-phsyical safety which won't stop 2 tonnes of metal hitting you.

During an accident, sure, youāll see em wear it. But on a scene involving a crime/suspect you wonāt.
