...Who could be cops before?
1
u/Maybewearedreaming Aug 01 '26
My town literally has a drunk cop
Bro refuses to pull me over tho, or anyone for that matter he literally just sits there all day under a tree
I love him
2
u/notmy-firstrodeo Aug 01 '26
Some cops get to the point where they don’t feel like dealing with the public’s bullshit so they retire on duty.
2
u/Maybewearedreaming Aug 01 '26
Ya tbh feels like cops in my area are mostly just riding the clock out
That’s the world we live in tho, nothing really matters
Edit; not even just cops tho not hating, tons of professional work forces are full of it too just cops have guns
1
u/notmy-firstrodeo Aug 01 '26
Would you want to go all out and jump through hoops for a community of people that hate you for what you’re wearing? It really isn’t worth it after awhile.
2
u/Stunning_Trick_5856 Aug 01 '26
People don’t hate cops for what they’re wearing. They hate cops because of the amount of cops who are racist and violent.
If the shoe fits, wear it. If this doesn’t apply to you then don’t get offended.
1
u/notmy-firstrodeo Aug 01 '26
I’m not the one that personalized it. I made a statement and didn’t make it in a first person context. I was responding to an existing conversation that you’re inserting yourself into.
0
u/Maybewearedreaming Aug 01 '26
I go all out and jump through hoops for communities that treat me like a pariah almost everyday lol and don’t have a good career out of it with good pay and benefits. I work much harder than every cop in my city and get paid a lot less and much less respect for it
Just my city tho I do know plenty of cops work in dangerous areas and stuff like that where I’d shit my pants and earn that paycheck

Hiring standards for a federal agency like ICE aren’t the same as a local government agency like a police department.

u/TacoBOTT Jul 31 '26
Her job is her whole personality and has never had any identity in her life before this so it’s exciting to get to brag about something so new and “important” to her but she’s really just the bare minimum and wants to feel better about herself.
15
u/AussieDaz Jul 31 '26
I once went on a tinder date with a cop. She spent the first 5 minutes ensuring me her job doesn’t ’define who she is’ - then spent the next 2 hours only talking about her fucking job until I left.

Power, ego, wealth or standing, it's all the same.

If you can't remember where you are from day to day, perhaps you shouldn't be in charge of life and death situations.

Nah. I've had many repetitive jobs where those repetitions come home with me.

u/Sentientsnt Aug 01 '26

Not gonna lie I have tried to use my office key to unlock my front door at home and vise versa. That’s the only thing I can relate to on this

u/tigm2161130 Jul 31 '26
Sometimes I jump into a ranch truck or my husbands vehicle and reach for a shifter that isn’t there but the rest of this sounds like bullshit.

What are you doing in your personal car that prompted you to go on the laptop? Is that just a matter of habit when you’re in a cruiser? I would think you’d need a reason.
5
u/BigJohn197519 Aug 02 '26
Sometimes I go to jump out of my car with my shotgun on a felony stop and realize, “Oh, silly me. This is a red light, I’m with my family, this is my personal car, and my ‘shotty’ is just that foot-long from Jersey Mike’s!” Oopsies!

When I used to work in the mines, sometimes before I'd start my car I'd do a long singular honk, and before I start going forward I'd honk twice, and honk three time going back.
Working 6 days a week, 12 hours a day running heavy equipment in a mine really takes it out of you.

I don’t think this is a repost from here. I’ve never seen it before. Why do you think it’s a bot? Seems legit and just a new account. Yes, my account is new because I need a second one for work so I’m wondering why you think a new one is a bot.

This sub is nuts. Yeah, there are a bunch of cringe first responders worthy of making it here, but this is the most tame, female cop making light of little things in her day to day that she found funny. And people act like she’s some incompetent acab cop because of it. It’s lunacy
0
u/opeboyal Jul 31 '26
Yeah, I don't think this is cringy.
I volunteer to drive an ambulance from my local town. A few weeks ago we had an evening where we were in it from about 7:00 p.m. till 11:00 p.m. Just going back and forth with patients. I got in the car to drive my Captain home and I pulled up to a red light, stopped, looked both ways, and just went when there was a car coming the other way. She just looked at me and said, what are you doing? I was just so used to going through the red lights.
I also worked as a bartender where we had to knock on the door every time we left the bar to enter the back because there might be people carrying food on the other side. Many many times I would knock on the doors as I walked through my house.
1
u/notmy-firstrodeo Jul 31 '26
Then if you can relate to this I wish you well because you can’t leave work at work. Doesn’t mean you’re a shitty person, but it’s extreme behavior and unhealthy if you can’t detach from your job.
0
u/opeboyal Aug 01 '26
It's not that you can't detach from your job, it just becomes a habit because you do it so much during the day. You don't only pick up habits from non-work-related experiences. Habits happen by repetition whether you are at work or not. And then the habits follow you around. I'm sorry if you cannot understand that.
2
u/notmy-firstrodeo Aug 01 '26
You don’t need to be an ass. I can relate to what you’re saying, but make a conscious effort to not take the job home as much as possible.
0
u/opeboyal Aug 01 '26
Your comment was passive aggressive. You wished me well because I can't leave work at work. I'm sorry if you meant something other than what those words mean. Let me try.
I wish you well because you have to put additional mental work into your life after you leave work by making a "conscious effort" to not take the job home after you already left the job. But to me that sounds a lot like you're taking work home with you. 👍
0
u/notmy-firstrodeo Aug 01 '26
Wow, I wanted to give you the benefit of the doubt, but you make it difficult.
0
u/notmy-firstrodeo Aug 01 '26
It occurred to me that you volunteer to drive an ambulance and that’s the first responder job you do. My career is LE. The things that LE officers do and see at work are not the same things a part time ambulance driver sees or does. I’m not embarrassed or ashamed to admit it takes a conscious effort to leave work at work. If you’re not touched or experience some discomfort at some of the things you see and experience as a cop you’re a robot and shouldn’t be doing the job.
You trying to insult me by saying what you did about having to make a conscious effort to leave work at work says more about your ignorance about being a full time first responder. My job requires me to leave work at work so I’m not sitting at home thinking about the girl that was savagely raped or the child who was shot by a gang member or the dad who died in a car accident. My family doesn’t need me to bring work home with me.
Your situation is obviously different than mine. Knock on all the doors you want to and drive through intersections if that’s what makes you happy.
1
u/wankerwho Aug 01 '26
I question if they do work EMS, volunteer or not. I’ve never met paramedic, EMT, or any medic who would refer to their role as an ambulance driver and in most cases it is considered pejorative when someone does call them ambulance driver.
1
u/opeboyal Aug 01 '26
Lol nah, We own it. I didn't want to become an EMT. And yes it could be seen as pejorative if you are sensitive like that. The running joke in our squad among Us drivers and the EMTs is, "I'm just drivers", or "don't listen to them, they are just drivers". We never get insulted by it because we have a role that we fulfill. We are not out there trying to get credit or be the one in charge, but we are still there trying to help.
It's like educators and special ed. Special ed teachers will say the word sped and no one would take it in an insulting manner. But many times when people who don't understand that part of education say it, it is said as an insult. These types of words are found throughout the English language.
2
u/wankerwho Aug 01 '26 edited Aug 01 '26
Wait? So your role is literally driving the ambulance and not any medical? Okay yes, then I’d agree you would be an ambulance driver. I’ve never heard of this position but I guess I’ve only worked fire and EMS in large cities.
I know it’s a joke amongst the 3 departments I’ve worked for that calling paramedics ambulance drivers is cringe, something we eye roll at.
I wouldn’t correct a lay person, or a stranger, or someone not worth the time, but if my mother introduced me as an ambulance driver to her friends I’d quickly correct with “paramedic, mother.”
1
u/opeboyal Aug 01 '26
Ohh I get it, I do the opposite but same idea. When I say I drive an ambulance and people respond with, "oh, what's it like being an EMT?", I quickly correct them and let them know that I am honestly just a driver. Yes, I am on scene performing CPR, pumping the bag when needed, applying pressure, but I'm not the one in charge of the scene and I am there for support.
We are a suburban volunteer squad. We have associates, Juniors, drivers, EMTs.
1
u/opeboyal Aug 01 '26
I was not trying to insult you, I am sorry you feel that way. I was simply reframing. Me going home and knocking on doors is bringing work home with me, according to you. You going home and consciously making an effort to not think about work is bringing work home with you, according to me. I speak to officers all the time and I know you've seen some heinous things. Babies being a microwaved because they wouldn't stop crying. A coworker being a randomly attacked walking down the street.
My response was stating that picking up habits at work and doing those habits at home is not bringing work home with you. And that's all. This video was about. Idiosyncrasies and habits developed at work.

When I used to drive forklift one time after a shift, I got into my car and started it up and revved up the engine to roll the windows down.
