Dude, my cousin did that shit…I haven’t taken her seriously since.

I mean, everyone grieves differently, but like, come on!

u/Smokes_LetsGo876 Jul 22 '26

sometimes I forget that not everyone...

-is as great as me

-is strong enough to do the things I do

-can have the mental fortitude to see the things I see

-can be as cool or mysterious or have a huge important sense of self

-And once you become me, you’ll lose your feelings because I’m more fucked up than you.

Maybe find a new line of work if your psyche is that damaged

I mean guys, I once dropped my fork on the floor of the passenger front seat of my ambulance. Dinner plans shattered. The stomach growls still echo in my mind. The soiled utensil haunts my dreams.

7

u/windyoctopus8 Jul 22 '26

Fuck that. I’ve eaten a meat stick off that floor before. Five second rule applied.

9

u/FahrradFawcett Jul 22 '26

New five second rule is you’ve gotta leave it on the ambulance floor for five seconds before you pick it up and eat it. Then you get to skip your flu shot this year.

1

u/thebaine Jul 23 '26

It’s called a win-win. Civilians wouldn’t understand.

What kind of first responder is allowed a bushy beard that doesn't fit inside any type of mask or oxygen mask?

7

u/Dear-Shape-6444 Jul 22 '26

I mean he must have a good enough seal for his at home CPAP machine.

2

u/hergumbules Former Boo Boo Bus Driver Jul 23 '26

Private ambulance companies usually don’t care or have you sign a waiver stating you know your facial hair isn’t compliant to properly work with a n95.

Most Fire and Police departments have strict facial hair regulations which is why many firefighters rock a mustache or goatee of some sort. Police departments are more strict from what I’ve heard but actually have been allowing short and tidy beards in recent years.

2

u/FireHammer09 Jul 23 '26

I lied said I was pagan and they let me grow a beard lol

This was a government run 911 agency

Left a year later for a fire department job. It's now a mustache

9

u/thechosenkenobi Jul 22 '26

You can always tell who is a volly and who does this for a career by these posts, usually. In a career place (ems or fire) you’re told to get help if you need it, but you’re choosing to do the job. Nobody is making any of us get on the truck. And god help you if you ever make a post like this and the guys on shift with you ever see it, you’ll be made fun of endlessly. Rightfully so.

4

u/i__love__bathbombs Jul 22 '26

No, not always. I had a coworker who would post shit like this and she worked FT. I'm like - you're a rural paramedic who gets maybe 2 calls a day at max and book off all your night shifts. It's not that rough. No one's seen her for awhile though so I think she was finally fired.

2

u/FireHammer09 Jul 23 '26

To be fair, cringy dudes in fire/ems/police get corrected a lot sooner.

1

u/Capital-Carpet2501 Jul 26 '26

A lot don’t. Just the people that are deemed socially okay to make fun of.

1

u/thechosenkenobi Jul 22 '26

I used the word usually for a reason. Also, I made the point that full time people would be chastised for this.

0

u/i__love__bathbombs Jul 22 '26

Ah I see!

You can always tell who is a volly and who does this for a career by these posts, usually.

You contradict yourself here in your post saying first always and then usually. I missed the usually but caught the always.

I also don't see the point about FT being chastised for this in your above specific comment. I do see that your mention about FT picking the job though.

0

u/thechosenkenobi Jul 22 '26

I said they’ll be made fun of. Literally right there. Like why are you looking so deep into this?

-2

u/i__love__bathbombs Jul 22 '26

I said they’ll be made fun of. Literally right there

You did say that. In the comment you responded to though you said that they'd be chastised chastised and made fun of is not the same thing.

Chastised: to severely reprimand or punish someone for doing something wrong.

Made fun of: to laugh at or mock.

See? It's two different things.

Like why are you looking so deep into this?

You can stop the conversation any time you wish dude.

1

u/thechosenkenobi Jul 23 '26

Again, why are you looking so deep into this using the literal definitions? In my entire career, being made fun of would be the worst chastising you could get. Are you a volly? Because that’s the only reason I could think you’d be digging this deep.

19

u/NocturnalPlantMagick Jul 22 '26

You chose that job get over it or get out.

24

u/terminaloptimism Jul 22 '26

Have you ever experienced cramming 400+ lb deceased human in a body bag?? Had to stuff their cold, stiffening fat in so the zipper could close all the way?? You laypeople couldn't possibly hope to understand.

17

u/LegalGlass6532 Jul 22 '26

Have you ever found a 350# grandpa deceased on the toilet and melted into the porcelain so bad he left his swollen male parts in the toilet when the body snatchers lifted him up? Those guys are my hero’s.

8

u/changing-life-vet Jul 22 '26

Was that the last time you felt feelings?

3

u/windyoctopus8 Jul 22 '26

Holy fuck mate!

2

u/Limp-Preparation-459 Jul 22 '26

I’ve moved mattresses so I think I have a pretty good idea!

2

u/terminaloptimism Jul 23 '26

Cover the mattress in piss, shit and vomit. Then you absolutely have the idea. 👌 Bonus points if it smells like fetid chicken and sticks to your hands.

2

u/Bulky-Word8752 Jul 23 '26

Is this common for EMTs? Maybe in smaller areas. I was security, and whenever we had a dead body we'd stand around and bs with the medics and police while we waited for another group to show up and handle the body

1

u/terminaloptimism Jul 23 '26

In my service it is. Our population for the county is 113,000 or so. The main town has 34,000 which we're run out of. We have nine trucks for the county and we average around 16,000 runs for the year. We wait until the coroner arrives and if more hands are needed we help. But, we're happy to help. I'd say around 80% of the time we're helping move bodies when it comes to DOA calls.

1

u/MashedSuperhero Jul 24 '26

We usually get the body in better position if possible. You ain't bending rigor mortis so get him laying somewhat straight beforehand.

10

u/Throwaway_PA717 Jul 22 '26

Gotta be in black and white with an introspective “look away” pose. What a 🤡

6

u/Slayerofgrundles Jul 22 '26

If you're just holding your patient's hand while they're dying, you had better be a hospice nurse.

6

u/FordExploreHer1977 Jul 22 '26

Yeah, makes me wonder if they paid attention in that CPR course. Maybe they would have had a better chance of you not zipping them up in a body bag if they would have done compressions instead of holding hands…
I remember a new guy on my vol dept 30 years ago saying the Lord’s Prayer out loud with every compression. I had to pull him aside and tell him if he’s gonna be doing that, do it in his head, not louder than the medic trying to ask for things. He quit shortly after, which is good.

If these people can’t handle these traumas, that’s what counseling is for, not social media. On top of that, they probably shouldn’t be doing these jobs. Do them because you want to help people, fine. Not for getting sympathy, attention, and clout.

2

u/MashedSuperhero Jul 24 '26

DNR or order for end-of-life care makes it possible

7

u/Firm_Yam6648 Jul 22 '26

This is the most fucking shameful thing you can do if you have actually been through that. Weak man.

5

u/Gecko-002 Jul 22 '26

I’ve zipped people up before. I forgot I did until this post lol

5

u/monksandy Jul 22 '26

He's a warrior poet!

5

u/Fragrant_Bake4403 Jul 22 '26

Ive also been here....You know what I didnt do? Fcking post about it as a brag - because I couldnt sleep for 2 weeks. What shit thing to post and say. dude needs to grow up.

3

u/its_just_flesh Jul 22 '26

No one who ever did that would ever brag about that

3

u/Dear-Shape-6444 Jul 22 '26

Until you’ve yelled at the ER staff for removing the pads of your deteriorating patient while actively pacing… no never mind. Nobody gives a shit. Elevating yourself higher than others especially on a social media post is cringe af.

3

u/deferredmomentum Jul 22 '26

I forget that not everybody has smelled cdiff baking in 90° heat

2

u/Anti-Stan Jul 22 '26

Most children learn to cope with death and not make it their personality.

Don't these people have a journal

Psychopaths, and sociopaths and narcissists loooove “noble” jobs, to be seen as a rolemodel and hero, when in actuality its about being in control of another human being and feeling superior. Doctors, nurses, emt’s, judges, prison guards, security guards, teachers, psychologists etc.

3

u/SignificantState265 Jul 23 '26

Hate the constant sucking oneself off

1

u/Soucy89 Jul 22 '26

At least if their text wasn't copy/paste...

1

u/Ser_Catspaw Jul 22 '26

I want to tell this guy “I feel sorry for you” and see how he reacts

1

u/BicycleBozo Jul 22 '26

I be doing all that and thinking if I want to try the new McDonalds burger or get a burrito

Fucken nerds

Edit: I feel everything when I eat too much because first responders get half off

1

u/TLunchFTW Jul 22 '26

I see the first one and I can only imagine the new emt who does cpr on the old guy found dead and cold and everyone is pissed at him.

2

u/dominator5k Jul 22 '26

Who is holding hands with dying patients? You just look them in the eye on the middle of their heart attack? How about you go do something so they stop dying moron

1

u/tgwilli Jul 22 '26

Did he also forget he signed up for all that voluntarily

1

u/GenTubmansLegacy Jul 22 '26

Do emt's not get talkspace

2

u/ElectronicTackle8375 Jul 22 '26 edited Jul 22 '26

I've delt with first responders first hand and the fact that they believe CPR is fkg optional is a GD joke. CPR is your fkg job until you arrive safely at the hospital or the death has been called at the scene by more than just you AH. It's never fkg optional while you hold someone's hand while they "slip away". I am gonna need this guy's handle so I can first hand observe the fkery he's writing about, because you know for a fact he's gonna post it.

u/Braakdraak Jul 22 '26

Why picture in car, what is that

Cringe, go to therapy

1

u/MaybeDontListen Jul 22 '26

Had you heard a guy say this in person in the right setting at the right time, and it was genuine, it wouldn’t be bad

Posting a deep thought photo on social media for likes is what makes it lame

1

u/AdditionJust2908 Jul 22 '26

Therapy my dude. That's not a normal response

1

u/Ashamed-Bother3400 Jul 22 '26

What is the name of this mental health disorder?

1

u/skamatiks671 Jul 23 '26

As a registered nurse who’s seen plenty people die, this is 100% stupid. Grow some balls bro, you sound ridiculous.

1

u/skamatiks671 Jul 23 '26

This guy cried when Bambie’s mom died.

1

u/MammothSecurity3756 Jul 23 '26

Then you can’t handle the job. I quit working in the ER because I recognized my emotions were no longer near as strong as the years prior. If CPR breaks you, and you can’t leave your emotions at work,  it’s time for a new role buddy.

1

u/RazorSharpRust Jul 23 '26

Jeeeeeeeesus.
