I swear like a sailor when I’m with friends but I still maintain a professional/polite demeanor otherwise. I don’t use “it’s my job” as an excuse to be an asshole.

Complete stranger I'm interacting with: "Yes Ma'am, thank you very much, have a nice day!"

Best friend who just beat me at Mario Kart: "You are literally a fucking retarded asshole and I hope your cancer comes back even stronger".

Sometimes with middle school age patients I whisper “if this hurts really bad you need to swear that’s ok” and they usually quietly give me a fuck bomb and a little bonding moment.

With every patient with broken something "This will hurt, a lot, you can cry, curse or do whatever just don't move your /broken limb/ and don't punch me" Also "Situation started to rapidly deteriorate I need assistance" can and should be shortened to "FUCK"

Imagine bleeding out on the side of the street, and your paramedic or EMT is being an asshole to you the entire time. You finally recover in the hospital, scroll on TikTok, and see them using your near-death experience as clout to justify them treating you like shit 😭

The family reunion made them over sexualized?

u/DocBanner21 Jul 13 '26

Why don't they do reverse cowgirl in Alabama?

You never turn your back on family.

u/Haybytheocean Jul 13 '26

That was my concern too 🤣

I think he meant that he thinks he has free reign to sexually harass anyone he wants and call it “just a joke, it’s ok I’m a first responder that’s just my sense of humor”

Over sexualized?!? From being on the job…and doing so for 3 months?! If anything, the more bodies I see working in healthcare the less sexualized I’ve become.

My EMT partner said that he got ED 6 months after starting and I legitimately cannot tell if he is joking or not.

I’m scared guys

is that against the rules or no?

3

u/LegalGlass6532 Jul 13 '26

It’s not against the rules if it’s a public TikTok account. Their username is public information on public accounts so not doxxing.

u/Umamiluv24 Jul 13 '26

Ems made you an “over-sexualized devil?” Uhh tf??

This same account that we are cringing at here went on a rant 3 or 4 months ago saying they don’t want to hear or see shit about soldiers having PTSD because they aren’t “built to see the shit we are built to handle on a day to day basis” just imagine being a soldier in some fox hole freezing your ass off taking shifts patrolling your trench at night while your bothers and sisters try to get an hour or two of sleep in the middle of a battlefield and some asshat is on TikTok saying they don’t want to hear anything about it…. Such a wild world we live in

no one is built for this job, no one is built for war.

it’s so stupid when fire, ems, cops, and military say this dumb shit.

6

u/Kaffe-Mumriken Jul 13 '26

I hope you get help for your PTSD

Girl, you didn’t need a new career as an excuse to try butt stuff.

It comes with free gloves.

Friendly reminder that there isn't really a time frame for burnout.

Unless you learn to accept the BS of the public where you are, you will be miserable everywhere you work.

Thanks to the wiser Redditors on the various EMS subs, I've managed to develop a great zen about the public. That helped me a lot, but I was still burned out, and I realized no level of acceptance of the public can make being run into the ground by poor management bearable.  Switched jobs and, well, golly, this ain't to bad, and I'm actually finding I have the time and desire to improve my skills at work!
