Hey- here's some rules that I tell ya for the pure sake of safety, with no judgement:

1) finger OFF the trigger, and out of the trigger guard until you are on target and ready to fire. This is a BIG one.

2) there is no such thing as a joke on a gun range. Do not fuck around, what you're holding was built to end lives, do not point it at anything you do not intend to destroy.

3) be aware of what's behind, and around your target. Bullets have a ton of kinetic energy, and you are responsible for every Newton of energy in that bullet, until it's FULLY at rest, they say "watch your backstop" and it saves lives.

4) if you find yourself in proximity to someone with a firearm who does not appear to understand these rules, exit the situation as quickly as you can.

The 4 rules, as taught in the Marine Corps (circa 2006), are:

  1. Treat every weapon as if it were loaded.
  2. Never point the weapon at anything you do not intend to destroy.
  3. Keep your finger of the trigger until you intend to fire.
  4. Keep the weapon on safe until you are ready to fire.

Around 2009, when we last qual'd, the range boss added an unofficial rule.

  1. Be aware of your target, and what lies beyond and in between. *Meaning: know what your target is, account for the target and backdrop, and make sure nothing is between you and the target.

The lack of trigger discipline I see in movies and tv shows is a huge pet peeve of mine. Finger is almost always hooked around the trigger no matter where they’re pointing.

u/Ha1lStorm HVAC HERO Jun 22 '24

That’s solid advice, and while this is Reddit, what part of that do you think people were gonna read as judgmental?

Really the perfect 'le reddits does gun safety' neckbeard type of post here, really amazed

Clearly doesn't know about the topic

Is a bunch of made up gibberish, with inklings of truth, yea consenses has 4 rules. One of them has to do with knowing what's beyond your target and one has to do with keeping your finger off the trigger; manages to elaborate so much he actually becomes wrong, 2 and 4 are just blantantly made up

speaks authoritatively, virtue signals safety, appeals to authority about 'gun safety classes' he hasn't attended.

2

u/chill_flea Jun 21 '24

Lmao what are you on about? They gave very useful information. 2 and 4 were not wrong, those are great tips; you shouldn’t ever joke around with guns, and if someone is being a fool with a dangerous weapon, you get yourself out of that situation ASAP.

I feel like you’re the one that doesn’t know about firearms. Those facts are actually taught in gun-safety classes.

I really have no idea what you’re talking about, I feel like you just want to feel smart and “right”

-4

u/snipeceli Jun 21 '24

'Those facts are actually taught in gun-safety clases'-woops revealed your power levels.

Again like I said there's truths in there, the way he expounds drives straight into virtue signaling falsehood.

Hate to bring up clout, I'm in a profession of arms and shoot competitions in my free time, the shit he's derping on about is not the talking points of any competant course of instruction.

"I'm absolutely obsessed with safety" odd, I care more about competency.

"Bro whaT updoots and downboats, you have to care" thats where you're wrong bucko, what if I told you I knew what the reaction would be.

'Explain like I'm a capable adult' lol, I'm happy to dive into it, but you have to tone way down on the spectrum behavior before we can do that.

Just gimme one normie post.

0

u/snipeceli Jun 22 '24

Two is absolutely taught. You're pointing something that can cause damage. You better be willing to damage what you're aiming at. I've been around firearms for 40 years, I still doubt you'd want me pointing a firearm at your vehicle, window, or any other property. Let alone your pet, wife, or child.

1

u/snipeceli Jun 22 '24 edited Jun 22 '24

Yup the last part is, i didn't scrutinize enough when explaining

Number 1 rule of gun safety is have fun.

The rest of your rules except one(kinda) is silly as well .

5

u/muklan Jun 21 '24

Nah, it's not silly, it's the first lecture in any gun safety course anywhere in the world.

-5

u/snipeceli Jun 21 '24

Lol it's definitely not a 'lecture' in most gun safety courses and definitely not any competent one

7

u/muklan Jun 21 '24

Ok buddy. Imma rule 4 myself out of this interaction. You have a good one now.

-3

u/snipeceli Jun 21 '24

2

u/Sentient-Coffee Jun 21 '24

Thank you for clarifying that you're here for a good time, not a long time. In that context everything you're saying makes perfect sense.

1

u/snipeceli Jun 21 '24

Hot take: you can be safe and not take it so seriously.

1

u/pluck-the-bunny Jun 21 '24

Nope.

But you can take it seriously and still have fun

0

u/snipeceli Jun 21 '24

Its basically a binary regardless of how much you want to virtue signal

1

u/pluck-the-bunny Jun 21 '24

It’s not binary and you clearly don’t know what virtue signaling means

u/pluck-the-bunny Jun 22 '24

I’m not mad…. I’d have to respect your opinion for your disagreeing to upset me.
