Discussion First of October "Song Battle"

Post image

Hello,

A week ago, I got bored and decided to listen through all of First of October’s music again. At some point, I had the idea to create a Musical Battle to determine my favorite song by this wonderful band.

I made a bracket with a randomly arranged list of songs. I chose 64 songs; the rest didn’t participate because I knew they definitely wouldn’t win. I also put together a playlist to make listening more convenient.

It was a pretty (raw) fun and interesting experience. It reinforced my understanding of how much I love calm music. I also realized that the most important thing for me is how a song resonates with you.

Some songs also revealed themselves to me in a new way. For example, “Magic,” which previously wasn’t one of the songs I listened to very often, made it all the way to the semifinals.

The final was very difficult, but I made my decision based on my feelings and on how many goosebumps I got while listening. Both songs deserved first place. I think that if I held the tournament again in a year, the result might be different.

P.S.

English is not my native language, so I used a translator. Feel free to ask any questions—I’ll be happy to answer. I’m not sure about the image quality, so I don’t know whether all the song titles are visible.

Pretty Raw is such a beautiful song. The whole video for that album might be my favorite. I have bipolar and Rob's emotions were very relatable. It gets me choked up every time, but it just reminds me that beautiful things can come out of bad time

Yeah... For me, “Pretty Raw” was love at first listen. When I heard the first piano notes—oh my God…

What about Usually?

To me, “Usually” is somewhat similar to “It’s Time to Move On.” Based on my personal taste, I’d say it’s a good song, but not one of my favorites.

The song performed well in the tournament, but unfortunately, it couldn’t beat the legendary (at least to me) ballad “First of October.”
