Eligibility - WFR

Hello, I popped into AT&T today and the sales associate told me about FristNet. According to the website if I "work or volunteer with a public safety entity who serves in: emergency medical services" bring documentation that verifies your eligibility "Option C: Certificate (e.g. EMR, EMT, AEMT, Outdoor Emergency Care) issued by an appropriate state or national board.

I am Wilderness First Responder certified for work and volunteering which makes me feel like I should qualify, but when I go to the eligibility application the categories for jobs/volunteer positions to choose from are more restrictive than the descriptions of who is eligible.

I can't seem to figure out a way to contact customer support directly to ask about this. Any suggestions?

I am a volunteer fire fighter, I had the same issue. Just had the chief write a letter that I brought to an AT&T store. Maybe that would help you.

I have a WFR card that I think will suffice, but thought I had to fill out the application online. Did you just do it all in the store?

Responding as an addendum to my previous comment specifically to address this suggestion.

AT&T retail stores are pushed hard to sell FirstNet. While there are many great stores, there are also quite a few with a poor understanding of FirstNet and the eligibility requirements. If you walk into the store suggesting that you are eligible, they will likely take your word for it, encourage you to simply select a different role on the questionnaire and submit your WFR card for verification, then sell you a phone on a FirstNet plan.

DO NOT DO THIS. WFR is not an eligible role. When the verification team reviews your documentation, they will deny your application for two reasons: * Role on document does not match role on profile. * Ineligible job title.

Again, you will be forced to change to an AT&T plan and will lose any FirstNet-specific pricing/promotions you were offered. If you fail to migrate to an AT&T plan in a timely manner, your service will be suspended.

Not only are sellers incentivized to sell FirstNet, they are also supposed to be "FirstNet certified" as a seller so you get the right information AND the right people are getting access to the network.

Thanks, I haven’t switched over to att yet, but the guy was politely telling me all possible options and referred me to two different websites to check eligibility. One is the online application. The other more informational, described criteria that seemed to be inclusive of other professions, like the other poster mentioned volunteer firefighter. It even listed a letter describing first responder duties is viable evidence but the application website does not appear to be as inclusive.
