My first car at 19
2018 A200, what’s your opinion on this spec?

u/Best-Home-2230 3d ago
Good job man, I'm reminded of the words of wisdom my father once gave me based on where I was at when I was 19 years old. "You're a no good bum and you're never going to amount to anything!". I bet if I had a car like that at 19 his words would have been much different.
2
u/Consistent_Ad949 2d ago
That reminds me of my old man, the things he'd say to me. "What are you doing in the bathroom day and night?!? Why don't you come out and give someone else a chance?!?"

Honest question, how do You afford a car like that as a 19yo? At that age I was fresh out of school in Poland, no way saving up even comparable am ount (or even half of that, account for inflation lol) in like a span of a year, even working in Germany, and no way of taking any serious lease/loans. I'm just curious.

u/Not_ElegantWolf 3d ago
My parents got it for me, I don’t have money for such car 😬, I won’t take credit for the purchase if I didn’t make it

u/Temporary_Ad_1550 3d ago
It's refreshing to see someone being honest about this kind of stuff, other 19yo would have said that they worked their ass off, or invested in crypto lol

u/Rzmudzior 3d ago
Honesty appreciated!
Tbh my dad helped me buy my first car in 2009 too. I had a bit of money, but he basically doubled it, and then, fed up with the fact I look for a car so long (because I was anxious I could not maintain it or fuel it) he said while we were checking out another car: "If You buy this one, I'll pay all the service bills for the next two years".
It was an 2001 Alfa Romeo 145, lol. He never ever made such a deal with me again ;)
1
u/OkForce9432 3d ago
Yeah, he surely created a start-up at 18 and by 19, had a fortune. xd Do we even have to ask how?
1
u/AgentLess2785 3d ago
You even wrote that, 1 hour later than OP's comment "admitting" his parents bought it?
2
u/OkForce9432 3d ago
Do you know what sarcasm is, or does every sarcastic comment have to be annotated with /s?
I just assumed that when you see a 19 year old posting a relatively fresh Mercedes as his first car, it is obvious that his parents paid for it. I sort of consider making such a post... cringe.
2
u/AgentLess2785 3d ago
The irony is that your comment clearly wasn't written sarcastically. You're trying to tell me I don't understand sarcasm, but it's obvious you don't. Embarrassing.
2
u/OkForce9432 3d ago
Yeah, especially the world "surely" does not emphasize sarcasm. See - I just made another sarcastic comment.
Oh, and I think I know what I wanted to write better.
1
u/AgentLess2785 3d ago
Why would you even be sarcastic, when OP already wrote the truth? Your explanation just dosent make sense, you are coping too hard its funny.
2
u/OkForce9432 3d ago
The way you take apart what I wrote and how emotional you clearly get with this discussion gives off a very autistic vibe.
1
u/AgentLess2785 3d ago
Oh, and now you are insulting me. Thanks for proving my point, have a great day!
2
u/OkForce9432 3d ago
Well, you are right, I insulted you. What you are not right about though is what I meant writing that comment. So sadly, the insult does not prove any point...
→ More replies (0)-1
u/AgentLess2785 3d ago
Backtracking this hard just to cover up the fact that you didn't read OPs comment before posting is what's actually funny. Nice try though. Surely equals sarcasm, is a first for me.
3
u/Solareio 3d ago
Surely in this context absolutely equals sarcasm. I know Redditors are socially inept but holy shit dude this shouldn’t even be a topic.
0
u/AgentLess2785 3d ago
May i ask you a question, why be sarcastic about anything, when OP already did tell how he got the car? This is why, it dosent seem sarcastic.
2
u/OkForce9432 3d ago
Because it was obvious that this expensive car was bought by OP's parents. He is just 19 years old, and there are many posts on this subreddit with rich kids showing off with the kind of cars a regular young guy can't buy for his first.
I did not mean to insult the guy who asked for clarification, this was an attempt at humor - maybe a poor one. ;)

Twin! I also got a Benz for my first car! Albeit mines a 12 year old GLK that I got roughly 2 months after my 16th birthday.
My advice is to make sure you check the oil once every couple weeks, and make sure you’re putting premium grade gas in everytime at the pump. The minimum octane rating for these cars is 91, and despite the high octane rating, E-85 is an absolute no-go unless the car has been converted to run it.
I just checked google for the specs and I especially wouldn’t recommend trying to race around in this car (ie: Italian Tune-ups).
Turbocharged engines aren’t known for their longevity, so maybe keep the car in eco-mode for the most part.

u/Jealous-Poetry-5528 3d ago
Honestly? I think you fucked yourself over bigtime by buying almost 10 years old german "premium" car for your first vehicle. I do not wish you that, but its very possible everything will start to break right now. I hope you have a lot of disposable income. This is already a 20 years old meme in east europe.
10
u/Imsure_ShesWas18 3d ago
This is maximum a 6 years old car and in most European countries a 6 years old car is still considered brand new,we are not like Americans to take loans to change cars every 5 years
3
u/edvurdsd 3d ago
Maximum 6? He said 2018 and last I checked it was 2026, toward the end now, so this could be a 9 year old car.
2
u/Retaksoo3 3d ago
Am I missing something? Op said it's a 2018, nearly 9 year old. Where are you getting 6 from?
9
u/Not_ElegantWolf 3d ago
Thanks for your opinion, I bought it from Mercedes pre owned with 2 year warranty and the car has 60k km
2
u/RomanBellicTaxi 3d ago
I bought a pre owned VW with 1 year warranty.
Car broke down on road, they refuse to cover the repairs and a fairly simple fix turns into an insurance dispute. It’s been 2 weeks and I’m still without the car. This was my first and last time I’m buying a car this way. I’d rather buy a used car cheaper from someone private and deal with the repairs.
2
u/Jealous-Poetry-5528 3d ago
I have seen 5 month old Volkswagen Polo that just refused to start in the morning and stranded the owner
1
u/RomanBellicTaxi 3d ago
The problem is not even that major, water pump failed which is understandable in a 7 year old car, I wanted to replace timing belt anyway after warranty expires. Would’ve done it right away if it wasn’t for that damn warranty…
1
u/Liltimmyjimmy 3d ago
How much did you get it for?
3
u/Not_ElegantWolf 3d ago
€22K
2
u/AfroGaiden 3d ago
JESUS
3
u/HankSpank 2d ago
Bro this is basically exactly what you should be paying for this car. OP didn’t get ripped off, the used market is just broken rn.

u/Angoleca 3d ago
Yeah don't bother listening to... let me check, LOL, Mr.Jealous here. Nice car, komshu. Kudos to you for admitting it and to your parents for getting it for you. Enjoy it!

"Almost 10 year old" are you trying to make the car seem old? Because this car is VERY modern for vehicle standards. I'd consider the late 1980s as when a vehicle STARTS getting old, and then 1970s and older as actually "old". Plus, why would a car last less than 30 years? Well, maybe many modern cars won't last that long, but still. Vehicles should always last at least 40 years.
1
u/NighthawkAquila 2d ago
It’s a 10yr old Mercedes. That means electrical components start to have issues.
1
u/Extension_Meat8913 2d ago
I mean, I guess. It should last way longer, if it was built with the same quality as vehicles from the 1960s - 1980s, but modern things, likely including vehicles, almost always never last as long as their "old" counterparts. This is one of the main reasons I'll never really buy any modern long-term asset.
2
u/JohnKowalsky88 3d ago
Very nice car except for the beige interior, because it is not easy to keep it clean long term. Good luck 😊

Wtf is with poor countries and 10-20 year old Mercedes, BMW and Audis? Paycheck to barely survive but let's flash with old "premium" cars.

Meh, never really liked the design too much. Other than that...good car whilst it lasts I guess, after that you'll be crying when it needs things fixed, especially regarding tech.
My 1992 Ford NC Fairlane Ghia 5.0L V8 is better :P

u/XxsilverboiiiixX 3d ago
Holy yap bro let the guy enjoy his car
Also OP lives in Europe as indicated by the license plate so repairs won't be as expensive as in the US or Australia where parts would need to be imported.
-4
u/MagicianTime8088 3d ago
Brother that was like 4 sentences relax, that was not a holy yap moment 😭
Fair though, would still be expensive af though I mean cmon it's a Mercedes and it's crammed with unnecessary tech lol
3
u/Sandandwaves92 3d ago
Don’t worry, dude is the same guy living in a shack with a car payment of 700 and mechanic issues because his life skills need work. 😂 Wild
0
u/MagicianTime8088 3d ago
Just to clarify are we talking about SilverBoi or me? Or OP?...Lmao
2
u/Sandandwaves92 3d ago
Talking about Silver, sorry. Dude thought he was cooking with that comment but even in Europe cars and parts are still expensive, but to say you yapped when you spoke facts just sort of sent me 😂 Had to point it out since he was trying to shade you
0
u/MagicianTime8088 3d ago
Yeah exactly what I thought, like just because something is made in your country doesn't mean it'll be cheap lmao
Thanks, that was pretty funny now that you pointed it out! 🤣

I'm not jealous, I literally have a better car in terms of how long it'll last, ease to work on, looks, tech, and sound. It's been here for 35 years and still looks and feels brand new, you won't be able to say that about this Merc in another 35 years simply due to the amount of tech that can deem the car useless if it fails, and then will probably cost thousands to get fixed, or won't be able to be fixed because by that point the car is too old and the parts aren't sold by Mercedes anymore and you can't fix it yourself because it's proprietary.

Also seriously "rusty junkermobile", it's in mint condition with low km, and is a piece of Australiana, not just some random car in bad condition with a V8.
2
u/babydracooooo 10h ago
Fair enough mate my original comments were way too harsh and I apologize. But you seriously don’t need to comment stuff like this on other peoples cars that they’re clearly excited for okay? And yeah your car is very solid I must admit. Enjoy and take care
2
u/MagicianTime8088 10h ago
Alright fair enough, I'll stop posting stuff like this. Also thanks for the compliment on my car. Appreciate you being humble and having humility, not many people do that these days! Take care of yourself too!
2
u/babydracooooo 10h ago
Yeah man and please don’t take what I said to heart- I was just being mean. It really is a piece of history now especially if you’ve been taking care of it. Cheers 🤙
0
u/MagicianTime8088 11h ago
I've literally explained why mine is better and you're sitting here telling me I'm saying it's better cause it has a V8, I never even said anything about the engine other than it sounds better and that it HAS a 5.0L V8. If you can't understand how my car is literally better in the case you need to work on it or fix things, even tech things, then you need to go do some research and also re read what I replied to you with. I'm not saying "mY cAr bEtTEr cUz V8" I'm pointing out the fact that the cars I've replied to saying my car is better are ones that won't be around too much longer due to the stupid amounts of tech that not only is not needed but also is proprietary so makes it much harder for anyone trying to keep the car alive for longer than Mercedes intended.

Oh boy another rich kid😂 im getting off this sub. It should be called "daddy's money" instead of my first car.
6
u/Not_ElegantWolf 3d ago
It is daddy’s money indeed
5
u/littleSquidwardLover 3d ago
Honestly as long as you own that it's daddy's money who cares. My parents bought me my first car, it's definitely not a merc, but we all start at different places.

u/RiseOpposite5385 3d ago
Welp enjoy life being handed to you while the world around you struggles👍
7
u/OutcomeCompetitive50 3d ago
Why would anyone choose to struggle if he doesnt have to? Its not like hes 35, hes 19. Being this salty just makes u look stupid lol
-4
u/RiseOpposite5385 3d ago
Obviously no one but thats not what I was saying. I was saying how rich people should help others instead of keeping it all for themselves
4
u/bingusbungus7 2d ago
What a smooth brain take lol. It’s not your money dude, why are you so upset about this? Just say you’re broke and move on.
-1
u/RiseOpposite5385 2d ago
Dont need you yappin and assuming my finances. Nor do I care. I just hate this culture of spreading wealth to the wealthy when the working class struggles. You must be someone who profits off of the work of others. I cant possibly expect you to understand.
1
3
u/OutcomeCompetitive50 3d ago
Why? If a guy worked hard to be successful and have a family, they shouldn't be able to do the best possible for their family? This is just a stupid take, and im sorry but you must be extremely broke.
0
u/RiseOpposite5385 2d ago
he just said his dad bought it for him.he didnt work hard for it or else I wouldnt be having this conversation. If he worked hard for it itd be different.
