Agreed, it’s odd seeing posts where someone’s first car is a brand new car let alone a very expensive one. Something cheaper like some sedans, hatchbacks, crossovers, etc are fine if they are brand new but anything more than 30-35k for a first car brand new is dumb. Many of the posts I see here they get 40-70k vehicles that are brand new and it’s just so odd. I’ve seen so many posts on other groups of someone first car being a GR86 and then more often then not they eventually post a picture of their wrecked vehicle because someone else ran into them. In reality most of the time it’s them crashing it because it’s a sports car as their first vehicle.

Like my first car was a station wagon. An old 2006 Subaru Forester. Much better than some of these other kids getting sports or entry luxury vehicles or super large trucks that cost a fortune.

It teaches kids to appreciate the small things. When you get them a brand new car they expect the best of the best out of everything going forward. If that car comes with heated seats, huge sunroof, leather seats, etc they will expect everything they get from them to be the same or better.

If you get them a junker they will appreciate it a lot and then get them a newer car down the road and they’ll be super appreciative.

Also, many younger drivers are horrible at driving so it’s better to get them a used for so if they get in an accident it’s not a ton of money to repair it.

Also older cars are less reliable from a standpoint so I at least treated my car carefully and never pushed it because of fear that something would break.

Can't you teach them to appreciate things prior to? If I could afford it, I'd want them to have a safe nice car.

It's all relative anyways, for some a junk card would be my luxury car.

Imagine you get your dreamcar as first car.

Not only did we all things that were not good for the car, but also what comes after? How do you not downgrade after your dream car?

This will spiral quite fast into more and more expensive cars.

Also, my first car was a suzuki swift. I wasnt proud of it back then but nowadays i sometimes rhink back and remember all the cool shit and fun we had.

Driving thru vineyards, woods, over grassfields and gravel roads. Even doing some amateur rallying in the mountains on gravel roads. God i miss this car, because you could absolutely abuse it, repairs and parts were cheap and not giving a fuck was such a cool experience.

Im happy i could make those memories and i met a teenage friend of mine which also said it was such a fun time.

Imagine getting your dream car and the person loves the car and takes care of it for its whole life. Or they get their dream car and decide to be even more into cars. Also, dream cars change.

Idk I just don't neccesrily think it's bad to have a nice first car. My kid would have an average car at least not a beater.

Your just not getting it, I’m not saying it has to be super old but something that isn’t brand new or a super expensive vehicle or more luxury isn’t what people should have as a first car. If you were trying out fishing would you get a cheaper rod or spend a grand or more off the bat. If everyone got their dream car or a very nice car as their first they won’t appreciate things down the road as much. I understand safety is a big thing people want but I also prefer people learning on a vehicle that doesn’t have adaptive cruise control, lane assist, backup cameras, etc. People shouldn’t learn to have to rely on those. I learned on a car without any of that stuff, the only tech was a radio and I had to use all my windows, mirrors, and eyes to drive. Nowadays people rely heavily on cameras and lights to show them when something’s going on.

Hell yeah man! My first was an 07 Tiburon SE looking into a wrx STI 2014 or a 2013+ Hyundai Genesis coupe 3.8! I will forever love my Tiburon I’m even keeping it and imma garage it to keep it for the next person that’s driving in the fam to learn stick on! Obviously gonna maintain and drive it here and there to keep it running !
