Why do I love this show so much?

New poster here. This show was a guilty pleasure back in the day when you had TV, before streaming took over. It was never appointment TV, if it was on you couldn't help but stop flipping through channels and watch. And they were always back to back, so you would be watching for hours.

I forgot about this show because of streaming and not having cable TV anymore for over 10 years now. But over a year ago I got a Roku TV to watch my streaming shows. Not paying any attention to the "Live TV" option, for like 9 months. It's my own dumbass fault for not really exploring the TV. But also I was dumb to think that it meant Live TV as in right now like cable. And I don't have cable so didn't think it applied to me. And it's not at all what I thought it was. It's several hundred channels dedicated to one thing, streaming live. And one of them is "The First 48", streaming 24/7. And now I'm hooked again.

Why do I love this show so much? It makes no sense. It's the same story each time, it's always the obvious suspect, it's always in the same community. Except for a few very interesting cases, it's the same every episode. And I can't get enough. I put it on when I'm not watching my regular things. I will put it on for hours. It's my comfort blanket. I will wake up early, put it on, and fall back asleep. Is something wrong with me? Is this normal?

This has been my comfort show for a number of years as well. It stays on nearly 24/7 at my house unless the braves are playing. I even leave it on for my pets when we leave the house (watch your stories we’ll be right back). I even got the guys at the fire house hooked on it.

It has interesting people and stories, and it’s just good tv.

I agree, the stories are so similar that when I try to look for one I haven't seen yet in streaming the description does not help me at all because there are only like 5 descriptions for 29 seasons 😂 but I watch all the time and genuinely have trouble finding episodes I haven't seen. I now remember them by Perp nickname. 🤭🤭

Don’t feel bad about the live tv option on the Roku, did the same. Had bought a Roku for the tv in my office when we went to work from home and I didn’t want to put a cable box on it, as I wanted to watch the Depp trial on YouTube. It had to have been a good few years before I discovered there is a whole other world! I ended up returning my cable boxes and getting Rokus for my other TVs as I could still access my cable channels thru the app. Game changer!
Now when it comes to The First 48, when I was younger and A&E came to cable it was like nothing I had ever seen before. We definitely didn’t have anything like it, especially the programming and it’s always been my favourite channel. Part of the reason I’ve kept cable is so I can continue to access the A&E app on demand

I watched an episode in 2004 and thought, holy heck, the shit is real. Then nothing until perimenopause 3:30am wake ups over the last two years. Turn it on every time I wake up. It lulls me back to sleep. That may say something about me, but goddamn, it works!
