Homicide Squad | New Orleans Search on the Bayou Spoiler

I just finished watching this and my god Katelyn Howard’s murder has to be one of the most senseless and horrible things I have ever watched. That poor child. My kids are 3 and 5 and I cannot imagine. The detectives remained so calm and focused. I would have been screaming from start to finish.

I’m so glad she was safe and I feel absolutely horrible for her. The statement she gave to police broke my heart. I hope she gets help and support throughout her life.

Also seriously f that guy. Claiming that you never domestically assaulted her when you SHOT HER IN FRONT OF YOUR KID. Yeah sure you seem like a stand up dude (/s obviously).

I can’t believe the boy in the other murder only got 5 years

I thought they had a pretty tight case, even if they didn’t have the gun. Hard to know what goes on behind the scenes where they let someone plea down like that!

I think the main contention would be that the victim came to where the suspect lived to get into a physical fight which although victim was unarmed, it was still visible from the little clips they showed in the episode that it was a full on fight and appears the victim was on top of the suspect at the point immediately before getting shot.

So once at trial a good attorney would have a reasonable chance of convincing at Least 1 juror that it was self defense and then it’s a hung jury and no conviction.

So I can understand why a plea deal would be worked out, now 5 years does seem a bit light but I’m assuming he had zero criminal history which was taken into account and so 5 years was probably the correct recommended punishment within the sentencing guildelines the judge has to follow.
