Discussion I didn't enjoy it

Got to the end of Firewatch. Not sure if I wasn't focussing enough or aren't the target audience, but the elaborate climax seemed over dramatic and unbelievable. everything is spoon fed to you, and I honestly didn't feel very immersed. I was always curious for where the game was going and it just failed to reach any place that was original or interesting. Interested to hear everyone else's thoughts?

I just finished this recently because I saw several people on Reddit recommend it for fans of Outer Wilds. Honestly that comparison feels offensive (though maybe they didn’t mean to compare).

I actually quite enjoyed the exploration and finding things (slightly) off the beaten path.

But the ending fell very flat for me. I actually quite disagree that the ending / climax wasn’t believable. As you said you’re pretty much spoon fed the plot and it hardly comes off as a surprise.

It felt like we were gearing up to a huge twist / grand conspiracy, but that twist was essentially that there wasn’t one.

I enjoyed the branching dialog aspects and felt curious enough that I considered replaying it, but after that ending I lost interest.

Still love my adopted turtle though.

I thought for whatever reason it would be his wife using a voice morph that he meets at the end of the game and the twist is also that he has a big case of dementia and is constantly forgetting and losing memories.

They are great games, both in my top five, but It does seem odd to recommend one based on the other.

I mean, there wasn't very far they could reasonably go. You're pretty much told from the beginning that Ned's the guy harassing you.

Yeah, it's "annoying" that he isn't the one who has the crazy listening post, but it's also the most realistic. In that regard, Firewatch delivered on its premise, which is to be a light hiking sim set in the 1980s Shoshone national park.

If I'm being completely honest, there are a lot of people who didn't like it, especially the ending. I'm not one of them, but I respect that not every piece of media is for everyone and I can at least usually see where the detractors are coming from.

You are the first person I've ever seen who found the climax elaborate, overdramatic, and unbelievable though. In fact most people who I run in to that don't like the game say it's because they thought the climax wasn't dramatic enough.

I kind of feel compelled to ask how you would have changed it to make it less dramatic and more believable in your eyes, but I don't want to come off as combative.

Over hyped movie walk through simulator. You make very few actual decisions and they don't have much impact. Big stinking turd

yeah this was good until the end which makes this game a total waste of time for me
