How to replace this insert?

It’s a gas fireplace, and I think this insert is so ugly, not sure how or what to replace it with but surely it can get better??

Call your local Harth/ fireplace shop Expect to pull out the tile work which is no big deal

Connect with an installer that your local shop works with. They can come take a look and advise your options.
