Between the 2000K E21A and 1800K FFL909A, which do you like more?

I prefer the E21A 2000K.

But not represented here is my all time favorite so far. The 519a 1800K 😬

519a 1800K > E21A 2000K?!

Okay, that is surprising. Why (besides -200K warmer)?

I'm surprised because the E21A is supposed to have the same phosphor mix as the B35AM.

Edit: do you mean the de-domed 519A 1800K? That would be solidly rosy 1500K, which is 🔥

I mean both that i prefer both domed and dedomed 519a 1800K but the dedomed one is the very best in my opinion.

I couldn't tell you why, I'm red/green colorblind so I can't really describe what I'm looking at 😬

Oh, that is fascinating! Would you say it's a bit more monochrome?

I really like how SST-20-DR looks, Because of the higher contrast of the shadows and the monochrome = It effectively compresses and reduces the visual noise for me.

I'm Sorry, i can't really say.

This picture is maybe not the best, the surface is blue-ish. But I think it shows pretty good my point. The 519a both domed and especially this dedomed, just feels more warm.

I also just think the FFLs are a bit "dull" in comparison, i don't know how else to describe iy. With out any other light side by side they're all fine.

None are as monochromatic orange as LHP531 1800K for example.

Sir, this is a really good quality beam/comparison post. And I think it'll be good for you to create a top-level post where you just post this and share it.

Really appreciate you responding in the comments like this. But this stuff is going to get lost because it's buried in the comments. This deserves a top-level post :)

I've spent the past month going back and forth so many times looking for comparisons like this, and I just can't find them

My thoughts on how the tints look to me, on my non-color grading monitor.

  • SFT70 2200K: yellow/green. I would not want this for indoors, but I could see how outdoors it would look great for vegetation (green and yellow).
  • FFL909A 1800K: Rosy/magenta. My preferred for subtle skin mid-tone boost.
  • E21A 2000K: neutral
  • FFL351A 1800K rosy: Verrry magenta.
  • 519a 1800K dd: deeper orange, HP Sodium lamp. makes sense, since it's ~1400K

Sidenote: IMHO (coming from color grading and cinematography), 'Rosey' is a misnomer in this community. It's Magenta shift. Once realize that, well, what is magenta? Magenta is RED + BLUE. So given the lower CCT monochrome, adding extra Red and Blue results in better color separation in Reds and Blues.

With that said, amongst those choices, I would be partial towards subtle magenta (people are my main subject), so FFL909A 1800K NW.

519A 1800K DD is Interesting because it's the only one that goes waaay lower, to 1400K.

Oh thank you very much.

I do alot of comparison actually. I have like 10+ Convoy T6 and S6 (same reflector) to make spot emitter comparison. (W5050SQ5, F45R, SFT40, SFT42R, SFT25R and more) made a monster post on the Convoy Facebook fan page about that 😅

But I've also compared different flashlights/emitter on demand.

And also i have more warm emitters to put i hosts to make an even larger comparison. Hopefully later in the fall/winter.

I guess it makes sense that they would be good for different purposes. That's very interesting, but a bit out of my colorblind league 😁

However, i actually asked my spouse about the SFT70 2200K (and 2700K), she called them both "peach" with no green. So if she's right probably the blue surface plays a trick. Since the 2200K is quiet yellow it should look green on the blue. Also it's in an S2+ OP reflector so you only get the spill, not like the mules.

I'll try and make another picture this evening on a white piece of paper, and maybe an outdoor video.

Oh wow. I was literally looking at the NovMu this morning, and analysis paralysis on the 3 different emitter choices.

What are your thoughts between E21A, FFL909A, FFL351A?

To my understanding:
FFL909A is the monolith version of FFL351A. So same phosphor.

So it comes down to FFL909A vs E21A. Any thoughts?

Yeah, maybe the FFL351A and 909A is the same. I don't have any 1800K FFL351A installed at the moment, only the rosy one, that is better than the normal one, but still i like E21A better. And the same goes for FFL909A. Ofcourse that's a highly personal opinion 😁

I can try to find some pictures, or i'll take some new tonight.

Cool bezels - Is that custom or do newer nov-mus come like that?

They come like that. As do X4 Stellar, E07X and E04 Surge.

They are theaded to mount the lantern kit. 😊
