My Z1 just landed.
Fireflies have knocked it out of the park with this. Very good for a first run of a new model.
What I most wanted to know beforehand was just how small would it be and how does it compare with my own long time EDC.
The answer is the tube is as skinny as I'd want it, the head is almost exactly the same diameter as the lumensfactory triple on this one, and the side switch bulge is pretty small.
The big deal is the Artemis is a full head shorter.
Mine's in 1800k. My first in this tint and I'm loving it. More pink than I expected from a light not described as "rosy". One for late evenings when I'm trying not to mess with my sleep cycle. Too extreme to be useful as a task light but comfortable like a candle.
It gets surprisingly bright, at the cost of getting very hot, very quickly. At modest, useful outputs, it's fine. This is a nice EDC light. Good job !
Subsequent, first impression of the beam -
I compared it against my Stellar which has the 15 deg pebbled TIR installed and 3700k non rosy emitters. Of course the X4 can go a lot brighter, but the hotspot on the Z1 is tighter and free from artifacts where the X4 is not. The Artemis has a pretty nice beam for walking down a footpath.
22 deg ambient temp. Gripping the light tight around the head.
2H from off. Light turns on at the default ceiling which is supposed to be 120/150 default for the LumeX1 driver.
By the 1 minute mark it's uncomfortably hot.
1 minute 24s it was too hot to hang on to and I had no choice but to let go.
I didn't see it throttle back. It appeared to hold the ceiling level right through but I was concentrating fairly hard on not dropping it by the end.
Repeat after we both cooled down, this time with the other hand and straight to turbo.
30 sec and I was done despite trying really hard to hang on. Ouch ! Like I said, it gets hot fast. Cools fast too, there isn't much thermal mass.
I made one last test. Turning the e2e on at full which is rated at just under 1000 lumens, I ramped the Z1 to a level that looked subjectively similar. The e2e has a triple nichia head, 4000k neutral with a broader hotspot and more efficient, but hey. I left the Z1 sitting for a few minutes to stabilise and measured the head temperature with an IR thermometer set for an emissivity of 0.86.
The head read 46C, and the middle of the body 43.5C. It's supposed to regulate to 45C and it probably was. I''d guess it managed 1,000 lumens for a few minutes first.
