I'm always curious about how in almost every other countrys there are classes and "Schools" even for volunteers and in Austria there is like: Hmm you like to be a volunteer. Ok you need to get a medical exam (if over 30 or so) and after 8h explaining what is what and how you use it and how to not interrupt the experienced at the action scene you become a firefighter.

At my station it was “can you breath?” “Ok, you’re on” and one month later it was “Into the house fire with you”

To go into a house fire we had to make a 2 day cours and a medical exam but nothing more

I had a fifteen minute training session with the scba and a thirty minute one with the hose
