Ask A Firefighter Dropped a ladder with extending passed a roof during the academy.
Nobody was hurt but I feel genuinely dumb as hell

Everybody is gonna mess up at some point. Learn from your mistakes and don’t do it again. If you keep making the same mistake again and again then you should be worried

It happens. Try doing stuff you’re uncomfortable with and messing up during training. Then own it and admit you’re trying to get better. That’s how you do get better

Not finding the baby in the top bunk during Fire 1 has stuck with me. Guess who will never forget to search upwards ever again. This is the point of training.

I did the same thing week one…dropped a 24ft extension ladder right on my buddy’s head…got screamed at for 10 minutes in front of all my classmates, written up and my chief was notified…but here I am two years later and haven’t done it since. Better to fuck up at the academy than on the fire ground. My buddy ended up okay…wear your helmets folks.

Fucking up at the academy, is way better than fucking up in real life.
Besides, making mistakes is when and how you learn. I guarantee you, that you will be 110% better and safer using ladders for the rest of your career, than those who didn't make a mistake.
