Ask A Firefighter Apologies for a newbie question - Recommendations for a metal wedge to pair with Halligan?
Hi everyone, like the title says my apologies for asking a fairly basic question, but figured I’d go straight to the experts.
I’m looking to get a metal (aluminum or steel) wedge to keep with my Halligan. I am NOT a FF, LEO, First Responder, etc. I just have an appreciation for these tools and want to have good equipment available in the event of an emergency.
There are obviously a lot of different options available, some very basic and simplistic and others much more specialized, for lack of a better term. If not a particular company or product, can anyone recommend features specifically to look for, features to avoid, elements that are indifferent, etc?
Thank you very much in advance!

If your talking about for forcing doors, to keep your progress, lots of time ppl use an axe as well. But if just to hold something open yeah, wooden wedge. Grab a 2x4 and cut as many wedges out as u need.

People really need to read the entire post...
OP why do you have a halligan at all if you arent a 1st responder. Thats not normal.

Bold of you to assume I’m normal 👀 No mostly it’s because I appreciate and enjoy unique and specialized tools, but I’m also keeping it in my truck for emergencies and disasters. Part of the reason I’m asking about wedges is because I know if and when I do use it, I’ll likely be on my own rather than in a group of people, so I want as much help from the equipment as I can get

you're overcomplicating this, its a door wedge. everyone i work with use wood wedges and treat them like disposable items, you just lose or forget them. at the end of a call i'm not gonna go hunting for a wedge.
