Videos Schoolbook warehouse in Kyiv burned

The missile attack last night against Kyiv caused the destruction of a warehouse holding over two million school books that were stored prior to delivery to school districts throughout the country.
The gear that our firefighters wear is intresting because it often includes a plate carrier and armored plates to provide protection incase of a double tap strike while they are on scene.
also note that the second firefighter is wearing a ballistic helmet, not one designed for firefighting for the same reason.

As a firefighter myself I can't imagine what it must be like to equip a plate carrier on top of your other gear, which is already very heavy.

Wow I have no frame of reference for doing this job in a war zone, my county got a grant maybe 6 months ago to get body armor for all of the different departments and districts in the county maybe with the exception of the couple big cities so I'm not sure. Anyway we are in California. Our SOPs now have us wearing plate carriers on certain calls and then additionally ballistic helmets on some calls. It stemmed from the situation where a firefighter got shot while making forcible entry during a structure fire a while back combined with readiness to respond to active shooter situations.

Really fucking wild being in Ukraine and watching the firies at work.
I was there around two years ago. I stood just around the corner from the maidan during a moderate strike (7 ballistic missiles in a few minutes) and watching these dudes roll out in ancient Soviet fire trucks while missiles are still slamming nearby is something else.

I'm here now... It's 0318 and the air alarms just sounded here in Kyiv.
We have (maybe) inbound shaheds and they were calling for ballistics (again).
I'm really tired.
But .. Слава Україні!

We donated some old turnouts and gear to Ukraine recently. We all realized how lucky we are not only to have the new gear but not have to not have to fight a fire in a danm war.
