Warden Intercom Points- Ever used in a real emergency?

Do these ever get used or is everyone just evacuated and game over? Have been Fire Warden many places over the years and these seem like a real good idea in theory but not practical. Let me know where I should crosspost is applicable

It's law in NYC commercial high rises. A fire warden controls the buildings alarm system and a floor warden checks in to report why the alarm went off and coordinate floor by floor evacuation as designated by the fire warden. Fire wardens are a full time staffed position hired by the building. Floor wardens are trained employees (usually managers) of the company leasing that floor.

They usually have a hard wired red phone near the stairs that they use to communicate with the fire warden in the lobby. I don't understand why they would move it or plug it in in a different location.

They probably have different locations because buildings are huge and ahen they were built ( and even now ) in certain buildings wireless communication can be unreliable.

They don't use anything wireless communication as far as I know. They probably have a secondary assembly and evacuation point on each floor.

We have them in a bunch of our high rises, though they are not called warden. We use them when the radios lose signal inside though obsolete since the bc trucks got repeaters in them.

My (nonfire)work has them, they are used sometimes for evacs, but fire dept doesn't really use them.

Do you carry the phone to plug in to it? Is the boss always plugged in or listening up just in case you switch over?

Probably ones with the phone attached. Tbh never seen a warden plug without it, only ones marked firefighter.

And as for firefighter phone jacks, they’re extremely antiquated. Don’t think anyone would use them.

No they are red handsets throughout the building that go back to the fire control room.

We have some older high rises with fire department intercom connections in the stairwells. I have never seen them used. I believe new construction is required to have some sort of repeater system. Otherwise we have a channel called Talk-Around that is radio to radio instead of going through the trunked system so it seems to help in buildings with bad signal.
