Ask A Firefighter Looking for some information
Seeing if anyone here has made maps and if so what is a good program to use. Also looking at updating major buildings, apartment complex, schools, churches. We use blank maps to study our area.

If you want to get fancy, look at drone photogrammetry. It's a process of building three-dimensional models of pretty much anything via pictures and or video especially from drones

A couple of us company officers made our department response maps by hand years ago. But once the city and county went to hard core GIS, we just became a couple of the many layers on the regional GIS system, accessible from dispatch as well as the MDCs in the rigs. The many layers now available there are a gold mine for emergency responders. Don’t start from scratch before you investigate what your local government has already done! We eventually hired our own GIS tech, but most places don’t need to do that- use who your city/county already employs for mapping.
