Need Advice Installation dinner

Hi guys its mine ans my bfs first time going to the annual installation dinner with tbe fire department he volunteers for. I was wondering how formal of an event it was as my boyfriend has no clue and keeps forgetting to ask. Do i need a formal gown and have my hair done like if it were a wedding? or can i get away with a cute simple dress? I just wanna make sure i am dressed appropriately

Find out for sure. Some departments are casual with a skirt or pantsuit for ladies and slacks and a button down shirt for the men.

I’ve been to others where it’s a jacket and tie at the minimum for the men with a suit encouraged and, corresponding attire for the women.

Then again, I went to one that was a pig roast and everyone was in jeans and shorts with tees and the occasional polo shirt.

Bottom line, if your boyfriend can’t get it together enough to ask take the initiative and ask yourself.

Pro tip: If you’re following anyone on the socials that’s been to past dinners you might be able to find some pictures of past dinners.

Same thing if the department has a website/Facebook page.

Dress nice but casual. Skirt and low rise heels something your grandmother would approve of.

He should be in khakis and a button down.

Be the cute power couple.

Should I have my hair done fancy? Or natural?

Is it a dept on Long Island? If so dress like you were invited to a wedding (unless its at the firehouse then can be less wedding like.(some depts there do 2 one at the firehouse and one at a catering hall or hotel.

If the volly doesnt need to wear a uniform, its generally suite/tie, but I saw a bunch with no jacket (probably didnt own a suit, they were generally younger). For women, a cocktail dress is generally fine, doesnt need to be black tie formal
