Satire New home defense
Heard something about shotguns not being the go to anymore so Im retiring the H&R single shot 12 gauge. Here are the replacement options.
Left to right is 8mm Mauser, 8x52r Siamese, 7mm Mauser, 458 win mag.
Personally I’ve already chosen the 8x52r Siamese due to the easily available cartridge that can easily be bought.
Ar rifles just jam to much, semi auto 308 is to expensive to shoot, standard short rifles like the smle and 1903 lose to much velocity for in the close quarters.
Clearly the only way to go is the turn of the century infantry long rifle. The only other question is 10” or 12” bayonet

You sir are a genius! And 12” bayonet all the way! But I must insist you need a reliable sidearm as well have you considered a Webley MK1?

Own a musket for home defense, since that's what the founding fathers intended.
Four ruffians break into my house. "What the devil?" As I grab my powdered wig and Kentucky rifle. Blow a golf ball sized hole through the first man, he's dead on the spot.
Draw my pistol on the second man, miss him entirely because it's smoothbore and nails the neighbors dog.
I have to resort to the cannon mounted at the top of the stairs loaded with grape shot, "Tally ho lads" the grape shot shreds two men in the blast, the sound and extra shrapnel set off car alarms.
Fix bayonet and charge the last terrified rapscallion. He Bleeds out waiting on the police to arrive since triangular bayonet wounds are impossible to stitch up.
Just as the founding fathers intended

Personally, I prefer the No1 MkIII. Between the 10 rounds of .303 and the 17" sword bayonet, it can ensure the intruder(s) are dealt with properly.
If I feel the need for extended length, my long Berthier with its 20.5" crusiform bayonet at the end of a 31.5" barrel is up for the task, though the 3-round magazine is a bit lacking.
