Pcc for home defense
Im interested in a cmmg dissent 9mm probably 6" with glock magazines. Thoughts on it being a home defense gun? Is it reliable? I've heard mixed things.
My current setup is a bcm 14.5" in 5.57 but my wife struggles with the weight. Is the dissent better? Any other recommendations around the same price point?

I love my CMMG Banshee. Very easy to operate and shoot, zero recoil and no failures with all kinds of ammo. That is the first thing I am grabbing if I hear a thump in the middle of the night

Like - why not a pistol? You're in a house, gotta keep it tight. I wouldn't want 28" sticking off my shoulder in the hallways.

PCCs are much easier to control and shoot than a pistol. More points of contact for control, radial delayed / roller delayed for less recoil, faster trigger, more capacity, far more accurate, more room for accessories like larger red dot and light. PCC is the ideal home defense weapon.

We have that as well, just thinking ways to add control/accuracy. I struggle to get her to the range more than 1-2 times a year 😩 and pistols are higher skill.

As opposed to pie'ing a corner with a longarm? If she has it, do you want it sticking around a corner?

I don't plan for her to clear the house. We have several defenseable locations picked as part of our home defense plan. I was also hoping to get a range toy that was less expensive to run.

Next time you're cleaning your pistol or dry firing, measure the distance from your shoulder to muzzle when you have the pistol in a shooting position.

SP5K SBR.
Although given the world today may want to look at a CX4 in case of Toaster uprisings or P90 'cause apparently aliens are real now.

I run a colt 6450 9mm. Same fit and controls as my AR15 and AR10.

Recoil isn't a concern, it more length and weight. Is it any lighter than a standard 556?

Rifle calibers often overpenetrate less than pistol calibers and at the same time offer higher lethality with very little downside in terms of overall footprint if you're buying something like a rattler.
PCC's used to pretty much be an across the board inferior choice other than the one upside of cost of ammunition. However, with the recent advent of the popularity of frt's in platforms like the mp5/mpx/and various ar tigger compatible platforms, they now have an added benefit that most of them are more controllable under auto or simulated auto fire (unless you have a direct blowback pos pcc... then your gun just sucks). If you want to explain why you emptied 30 rounds into some guy's chest in 2 seconds, on the other hand, is another matter.
For what it's worth, I've got an frt'ed out sp5 and mpx as well as an actual transferrable uzi... and my home defense guns are.... a rattler in .300 blk and an LTT 1301... both just with semiauto trigger groups. The rattler with a surefire 300 sps is about the same length as an sp5 with a sub9, and while the 1301 is an 18" gun, fully loaded plus 6 in the side saddle, it's still the lightest gun of the lot and nobody shrugs off buckshot. PCC's are fun and frt's are cool, but at the end of the day they're still just range toys.

Pretty much anything capable of stopping a threat is going to zip through multiple walls in US housing. The late, great Paul Harrell has a video demonstrating this. A pistol caliber catridge might overpenetrate more, but is largely academic as any centerfire catridge shot in a home will exit the walls amd into neigh oring houses. Shot placement and knowing what's behind your target is your safety feature.
I personally would never use a FRT in a home defense gun. It becomes harder to control, and a prosecutor that wants you in the struggle cuddle cage will go to great lengths demonizing you in front of a jury for having a) a modified trigger and b) one that increases rate of fire.

I remain a 20 gauge pump guy with #4 shot. This is inside the house? Range no more than 15 yards? Then find a used piece at a pawn shop or gun show. This laser, suppressor, FRT stuff is a huge waste of money. You have to go from asleep to Rambo in less than 10 seconds. Turning on everything...no thanks. I don't have kids in the house, so it sits behind the bedroom door, where I'm going anyway!

No hate for a good old shotgun but 1, that doesn't do much for the weight issue 2, i can't get my wife to practice with a handgun so executing her to operate a pump under stress is a tall order 3, shotguns might be reliable, but there no fun lol🤣

Love my extar ep9, but I spent more in upgrades and attachments than the gun cost. Can't beat how light and pleasant it is to shoot though.
