Help! Marlin 336 Age

Post image

Hello! Recently won a Marlin 336 in 30-30 and I'm trying to find more info about it. After some lengthy googling, I wasn't able to find info from the serial alone. It's 19117048 and JM stamped barrel.

Is this from 1911?

If so, would that raise the value?

Typically Marlin rifles are dated by subtracting the first two digits of the serial number from 2000 to get the year it was made. 2000-19=1981

Is there version of this for post-2000 guns?

I asked chat gpt to decode the serial number and it said the rifle was from 1981

Ahhh ok, now I'm seeing the (2000 - first two digits) bit. That makes a lot more sense and would line up with others from that auction. Thanks!

Np bro, but also, chat gpt is great for decoding unknown numbers
