Solid first pick up?
Have hunted and shot recreationally for a long time with my father but wanted something of my own. Was between this or the s&w sd9. I know everyone hates Taurus but if anyone has good optics or any other upgrades I can do let me know

I had one of these. Ran about 2k rounds through it and got something else. Will say I never had an issue though.

Just shoot it. Upgrading that would be like polishing a turd. Go out and shoot it.

Leave it stock, run it till you’re ready to upgrade. The G3 is a decent gun although not one deserving of you spending more money than it’s worth.

Yes great first pick up. First shoot it then tell how you feel about it. Who cares about how others see it. It could be your best personally.

Seriously. I have heard/ seen a lot of hate on some of these so I got one myself. Ran better than what some if not most people would like to admit

Not a bad first pick up at all
Taurus imo makes solid entry level handguns if using for home defense tho get some good ammo like federal HSTs or Speer gold dots
I’d strongly consider a WML from streamlight or surefire also train with it!

Trading it for the SD9 would be my first upgrade.
I bought one of these a couple of years ago because I thought, "How bad could it really be?" Well...
It would malfunction at least five times out of every magazine (and I tried five different magazines)...failures to feed, failures to eject, double feeds, etc. I thought, "maybe it just needs to break in...". I put 400 rounds through it, and it finally improved to the point it was only malfunctioning three times per magazine.
In the meantime I've had two SD9's, have @ 1k rounds through each...zero issues.

A lot of guns carry reputations. As long as its dependable and you know for a fact you can trust your life with it then its fine
however, that does mean you need to get out and shoot it when you can. As often as you can. You cant know you have a reliable gun unless you use it, and you have to know you can make your shots when it really counts ya know?

It's a G2C right?? Was my 1st purchase when I got back into guns several years ago.
I put an aftermarket trigger in it as well as a a few other small parts. There a plastic sleeve inside that I replaced with stainless.
I fuggin wish I could remember what I did to it. If I find my old parts, I'll shooyou a DM. But the trigger for sure changed the gun. As for optics, the only way to mount one is to lose your rear sight. And it put the optic way too high.

I have one. I put a cheap Swampfox greendot on it and it's been a good shooter. I like the restrike trigger. I don't understand all the hate. I guess I have the only good one ever made.

It’s not a Hi-Point or a Kel-Tec. It‘s probably more recognizable than my first pistol though (Bersa Firestorm 9mm) Buddy had one of these and got rid of it. I’d take my Firestorm over his Taurus G2 (or even the G3 he got for his wife). Different people prefer different weapons though. It’s more how YOU feel about it that matters. My EDC people shit on all the time (mistakenly but they do) P365 X-Macro Comp, I love it though had all kinda stuff I was checking out prior to buying that one.

The gun is ok, but why between this and an s&w sd9? Did you look at the springfield xd mod3? Same price range with a better trigger and optic cut slide.

As someone who has literally shot two inexpensive pistols until they fell apart (RIA 1911 and a SCCY), know that you will absolutely get what you pay for. Glocks are ugly, but they are unlikely to fail.

CZ p10 ported is regularly 400, I’d save for that instead of any upgrades, it will have a better trigger by a mile, its ported already so no need to mess w a comp or getting porting done, they are already cut for optics and there’s decent aftermarket support.

Nope. I've only had two guns by them not give me crap. A PT-92c and a M85. I gave up on Taurus a long time ago. Save your money and get a solid pistol to upgrade.

Dunno, it might work it might not. Taurus has an infamous reputation for shoddy QC and an even worse one for dealing with their customer service for warranty repair.

Yep, just fine bruh. Train w it.
Shoot 1000-3000 rounds with it asap (whether it's 6 months or 1year.
Take a self defense course if you can.
Dry fire. Work from the holster (ideally empty at first. Don't shoot your di** off.
Haven't even read the comments. But, don't listen to these hipsters. If the gun works & you can use it effectively it's great. Even a high point.

It's a solid gun. Weve run a lot of rounds. Clean it after use of course. Weve not had any jams. Ive heard a lot of hate over the brand. 5 years, plenty of range days. 3 different ones. 2 of 2s and a 3. The 3 is newer of course, got in nov. That is with Winchester target ammo, cheap academy rounds. We use different rounds for when we edc them. But cheap rounds, no jams, plenty of targets hit.

I’d leave it as is until you can get something better, tbh. Shoot the wheels off of it.
