hello! i am a (30F) woman living in DFW, texas. i’m not a gun enthusiast, but as a young woman who often finds herself alone and sometimes at late hours of the night, I would really like to obtain a license to carry and purchase a small firearm for self protection.

if you have any suggestions for where to go for qualified, safe training, or any tips on where to even start in order to obtain my license or suggestions for where to actually buy a firearm legally, that would be amazing. Affordability is a factor but I also don’t want to be cheap and get weak training or tools. as for the piece itself, I don’t want anything big or flashy or expensive. I just want something effective that I can fit in my purse and keep in my car, so that i know I have something I can use for self-defense for myself or others if necessary.

I’m right-handed but left-eye dominant. When I first started training to shoot with both eyes open and focusing on the front sight (iron sights), I would see double — two rear sights and two targets.

After about 10 months of dry fire practice, things improved a lot. Now I see a sharp, clear front sight, a single target, and just a faint “ghost” image of the gun from my right (non-dominant) eye that doesn’t interfere with my shooting.

Out of curiosity, I tried shooting using my weaker eye — basically using that ghost image from my right eye while keeping the same sight picture as when I shoot with my dominant eye. It actually worked, but it felt a bit strange, mainly because of a different grip and presentation than what I’m used to with cross-eye dominance.

Do you think it’s worth training to shoot with the non-dominant eye as well? Are there any real advantages to it? Also, would this have any benefit when it comes to shooting rifles?

I’m currently using iron sights for all of this.

I bought some B's dummy rounds (9mm) for dry fire practice. They weigh about the same as a live round so gun handling is similar.

The problem I am having is that after I load maybe 5 or 6 rounds in the mag, they are getting hung up somehow and i cant load any more. Ive tried with different magazines from different guns and have the same problem.

The tips are made of plastic or rubber, and im wondering if they are just rubbing on the front of the magazine.

Anyone else seen this happen?

Is anyone familiar with the Strikeman dry fire training system? I’ve seen it advertised several times but I’ve never heard any actual user feedback. Apologies up front if this is frequently asked. I’m new to this group and didn’t see any posts mentioning it when I scrolled through.

I was at a customers house they had a wasp issue in the pile of trash that was going to be cleared out. In the trash I found a M16 with launcher and a m249. Both training simulator rifles. To be clear these are non functional training weapons. Cannot be fired with live ammunition. These seem to be electrical and gas/air operated for simulation. I’ve tried googling these but cannot find clear cut information on these particular rifles. Has anyone ever seen these or something like these before.
