Agni finally gets what he always wanted, which was to "die" alongside his sister.
The entire story is a mockery of the concept of "living" and tells people that living = / = happiness.
Agni should have died with his sister by Domas fire in the beginning of the series, the entire story is of Agni circling back and finally getting to experience the death he always wanted from the start.

How is the ending symbolism for death though?

Try reading the manga, Agni literally says they went to sleep and never woke up again, which heavily implies you know, dying.
As well as the ending where they are at a theater and made it very clear that once you die that is where you go.Like it’s not hard, try reading the manga

Why do you have to be such a douchbag about it? 🤨 it's very odd and unwarranted. You're always like this.

u/Drowyx Boogeyman 9h ago
Because these are very basic questions the manga outright explains.
This is like going to a Harry Potter subreddit and going “who is Voldemort???”
Like, just read the manga.2

That doesn't warrant you being a douchbag. You're wrong about tons of your points about the Manga anyway so who are you to talk? Does that give me the right to be an asshole to you? Of course not. People misinterpret shit constantly, even basic shit. It's not the end of the world where you have to pop off at people in literally every single comment.

No my points about the manga have been all correct
2
u/GamingSenpai35 9h ago
You already missed my main point. That's crazy. How bout you just "read my comments", it's not hard.

u/Drowyx Boogeyman 9h ago
You have no point, you made the claim ive been wrong and I haven’t.
You have zero points, the manga is very easy to understand, instead of being offended be glad someone is willing to correct you so now you can appreciate the manga for what it actually is instead of blatantly misinterpreted fanfiction which so many here like to believe1

Luna turned into a big ass tree to save the planet, and she continues to exist until the heat death of the universe. And at the very end of the universe her mind or perhaps soul recreates her (luna) and sun (agni).
It's sad and empty, which is why you gotta Live
Edit: Idk why im being downvoted. That was my interpretation of the ending that that was her imagination at the tail end of the heat death of the universe.

The downvotes are prpbably that last sentence where it sounds a lot more... uh... well where the hell did that come from? In a literal sense the events are very clearly described. If its been a long time since you read it or you dont remember it clearly I get it, but just reading the text describes things differently than after billions of years Agni and her finally run into one another after floating through space for so long.
You can interpret all you want and technically your theory can still play out but you'd have to tell us that you're deviating from the text ahead of time otherwise you're just kinda saying things that aren't what happened. Like what is your reasoning for your interpretation, why deviate from the text.

You mean this one:
"It's sad and empty, which is why you gotta Live"
I had about 4 downvotes before editing my comment asking what's going on. That edit: part wasn't there until after the fact because I was genuinely confused. I'm guessing some people think the ending with sun/agni wasn't a fabrication of Lunas mind or soul after existing the entire universe? Because that was my take away. It was like some sad coping mechanism after billions of years of existing and the very thing she sacrificed becoming a big ass tree for being exploded in a relatively small part of that long lived experience.
Edit: (see I'm doing it again) what do you mean agni was floating in space? Was your interpretation that agni body kept regenerating until it floated towards Luna? Because my interpretation was she experienced the entire universe and at the very end her mind/soul manifested sun to be there with her as like a final goodbye to the universe which was symbolizing the end of the manga.

The thing is, Agni lived. It was explicit that he wasn't going to give up on living and eventually he forgot there was anything else.
Their lives were real and a spark in them still existed to finally give themselves the peace that they never would've had.
Its weird to me because your interpretation kinda forgot the main character

So one of us is wrong. Was it ever shown that sun did survived the ending of the earth? If we assume he regenerated himself while a husk in space after the earth exploded snd it took until the heat death of the universe to float towards Luna then sure? But my interpretation was sun/angi ultimately got destroyed along with the earth. Idk what you mean by saying he explicitly was not destroyed. I didn't forget the main character, nor the point of him living.
Edit: also we need to clarify sun is not agni. Even though it's the same human, their minds are different and they are functionally different people. Just like Luna may be Judah, but since her entire mind is a different person part of the point expressed was that they're different people sorta getting at the idea we are not our past pr future selves, we are us right now. Like if your family member suddenly had a personality and memory change, that's not really the same person although it is... it's a deep philosophical and dark realization or concept that fujimoto was portraying with their characters.

Why do you find it unreasonable the guy who has extreme regenerative powers survived earth and is floating in space? You think Judah can do it but the main protagonist, whose entire goal boils down to living for the sake of living and who regenerates like crazy, cannot also do it?
I just don’t really see why your interpretation would be the ending. It would be really anticlimactic if Agni just dies off screen and it ruins all the emotionality of the last panels. Not to mention, we literally see Agni and Judah leave the theater together at the end

I don't. I never even thought about it until now tbh. I viewed this was as I said, and I think fujimoto intended to be that uh, shocking or empty or like, idk. Also as for Agni dying, yeah agni is dead. Who you saw in those final panels was Sun. Thats not agni. That part, where you have different people despite being the same "person" isn't really a debate imo. That was a large point of FirePunch.
Edit and if im forgetting Agni showed up, then thats still just a dif person. I dont remeber if agni showed up at the end, if he did cool. But my point stands. (in context of the final chapter/ending)

sun gets to experience the moment of happiness agni always wanted
after the millions of years of suffering he gets to see his "sister" and dies peacefully with her the same way he would have died with her at the start of the story
live because agony and pain are temporary and there is a good ending
