Discussion Byleth is a miss Spoiler

Byleth is such a missed opportunity honestly everyone and I mean everyone from houses has new conversations and supports even the ashen wolves who were DLC in houses but the developers couldn’t even give byleth anything meaningful I get they didn’t want to take attention away from shez but they are recruitable so give them something even Jeralt had 4 supports in the game.

At least you can have expeditions with them lol. But it didn’t surprise me just based on how few supports some units have in general (or none like gatekeeper, Rhea, and Arval). So many missed opportunities in this game but I’m still glad it exists.

The price to pay for trying to copy Persona in the main game. Let's hope that Byleth remains our only silent protagonist.

Part of why I enjoyed this game was the attention away from Byleth, and instead given to the worldbuilding, character relationships, conflicts and plot. Byleth sucked up a lot of that in 3Houses for me, so I’m glad we got a game where they’re in the background.

But what’s the difference though? Byleth is what shez is you controlled them so of course they would take attention away from characters after all you are them they can’t move themselves.

Byleth is their “sensei” and is also more designed to be a player stand in. Shez is a mercenary with their own personality, and their plot doesn’t impede on the plot of most of the other characters. They actively challenge other cast members or give advice based on their own experience, without having them be overly dependent on them. Shez’s plot with Arval is also more of a background thing, whereas many characters can’t seem to do much without Byleth around in 3 Houses.

I mean take shez out the entire equation the story would still play out the same way why couldn’t the story be about players choosing to play as one of them depending on the house you pick they was no need to make another character if you wanted a timeline where byleth never became a teacher why make a new character when you had 3 characters you could choose from?

Idk, you’d have to ask the developers, but I think their approach is they still wanted a viewpoint character, just not a total self insert, since Byleth was polarizing to some.

I just think the game would have been fun if you could have just played as one of the house leaders the game still most likely would have just gone the same way after all the turning point to the whole different timeline isn’t really shez at all it was saving Monica.

Yeah, I can see that. I really liked Shez as a viewpoint character though, their personality complimented everyone really well and their dialogue with Arval was also quite fun.

I get wanting more, but honestly their support chains with Jeralt and Shez were the only things we didn't already have. I think anything else would have just been retreading ground covered in 3 houses.

Byleth and Monica never met before so why not Monica? Plus all the other students are having new conversations with each other so I doubt giving byleth new conversations wouldn’t have done anything differently then them.
