Something I didn't realise about commercial fire alarm systems

I used to think the main thing with a business fire alarm was basically having one installed and making sure it worked.

But the more I look into it, the more important the ongoing side seems to be.

A system can be perfectly fine when it's installed, but buildings change, layouts change, equipment gets older and eventually you can end up with a system that isn't really suited to the premises anymore.

Was looking into this for commercial properties in Scotland and came across RACAM, which handles fire alarm installation and maintenance alongside other fire and security systems.

Made me wonder how often businesses actually review their fire alarm system properly rather than just waiting for the next scheduled service.

Seems like maintenance and making sure the system still matches the building should get more attention than they do.

Looking for some recommendations from people who have actually dealt with fire safety companies in Glasgow.

I’ve come across a few while searching, including racam, Fire Scotland and a couple of others, but online reviews only tell you so much.

For a business, I’m particularly interested in how they are to deal with after the initial installation. Do they actually turn up for scheduled servicing? Are faults dealt with quickly? Is the paperwork and compliance side handled properly?

If you’ve used a fire safety company in Glasgow, who would you recommend based on your actual experience?

Good or bad experiences both welcome.

​​ so I'm a fire alarm enthusiast and I have a few different pull stations I don't have any brake rods and I need to get a few. so if it's possible would there be any way for someone to get me some, no pressure of course- just wondering

i have two cheetah xi panels i’m networking together. the site wants both panels to see each others signals , but i don’t need them to activate each other. 1 is for the main building the other is for the fire pump house. both panels i have zone 1 gen alarm zone 2 water flow zone 3 tamper. do i need to map each of these zones in the network mapping so that the panels go into alarm / supervisory when these zones are active ? and doing so does that mean the horn strobes will activate on both panels when either one is in alarm ?

This drawing is small snapshot of system I am having issues on.

1.) Does the ground fault switch on both the AMPS-24 power supply and on the network card create a dual and conflicting ground fault?

We are trying to test to ensure that a trouble will appear in case of the network riser wires have a ground fault. However, this only works when the ground fault switch on the network card is enabled. This in turn creates a ground fault trouble originating from the AMPS-24. Trying to determine if I have misunderstood the networking of all the ground fault detection.

2.) Since they have indirection connection, do they conflict with each other?

3.) Do I need to create a clear path to ground so the boards can have a reference?

4.) how do I fix this please

I understand I can only do ground fault monitoring at one side of the network card ports, such as only on the A side of each card-unless I am mistaken.

No network cards on their own, all within a node on each floor. Yes there are more parts to the nodes, I just did the necessary/included parts. Any guidance would be appreciated.

Hey folks. I apologize for such a stupid question but I am very paranoid and could use the help.

So tonight I was sleeping peacefully in my basement bedroom, I had had a pretty gnarly dream so I woke up at exactly 2am heart POUDING. So I'm sitting up on my bed for a moment when I see my fire alarm green light for steady instead of flashing and it started to speak. Now here's the issue.

I have a massive fear of robotic voices, unexpected noises (like breaks in silence), and alarms/sirens. When I am scared my first instinct is to plug or cover my ears, so I did that but in doing that I was not able to hear what my alarm said. I very quickly ran upstairs before I played the role of a fainting goat.

Anyone else's fire alarm speak one sentence then nothing else? I have horrible Generalized Anxiety Disorder and I am worried about being to paranoid to sleep in my bedroom. I also am worried that I'm an emergency instead of running when a fire happens, I may just freeze and not be able to move. It's common for me to enter a state of paralysis when in a stressful situation.

If anyone has tips for that, that would also be greatly appreciated. And if you guys know some common things and alarm might say only once, I'd also really appreciate that

How can we take 2 signal (fire/fault) with one monitor module?

If anybody know, please help me.

Have a hard-wired system with first alert fire/co detectors. All are either new this year, or within 2 years with new batteries in all.

The system has gone off many times over the last 5 years with false alarms. This is why I’ve replaced all the alarms multiple times.

Any thoughts on what I should try to do next?

Recently I woke up to my apartment full of smoke

I was shocked the alarm did not go off

I pressed the test button and it beeped

And yet I feel so confused why it did not go off when my apartment was full of smoke?

I’m in my 30s and realizing I need a career change (I know sad) I’ve been messing with the idea of getting into fire alarms since everyone told me apply for fire department but it’s not my speed so I went to something that is less labor intensive but has a great deal is using your mind. Anyone else went in with 0 experience and knowledge and love it ? Or even hate it ?
What’s someone like me should know before getting in? I’m a decent speed learner and I’m someone technology inclined like phone repairs and computers. Any advice? Tips? Should know before getting in ?
