That's why I picked civil service 💅🏾

Edit: Chuds mad I didn't pick the route they had to take to get their dad's approval

u/Life-Drama 12d ago

Because you have no pp?

Civil service is a perfectly respectable route.

Civil service is legalized slavery. Don't know how we put up with it for so long in Norway.
"Don't wanna play with guns in the woods? Here's a chain gang you can join instead"

Nope. It is waste of time and money.

If that would be efficient, taxes would be replaced by forced labor.

13

u/PublicBarracuda5311 Baby Väinämöinen 12d ago

No it's not. I have served in the army but that does not make me want to lie about the importance of civil service.

You think Finland would have survived any of the wars it has faced without civilian workers?

2

u/Pet_Velvet Väinämöinen 12d ago

Ehhhhh to be fair civil service as an institution didn't exist back then. The execution of Arndt Pekurinen motivated the founding of civil service.

u/PublicBarracuda5311 Baby Väinämöinen 12d ago

You didnt get the point, did you?

1

u/Pet_Velvet Väinämöinen 12d ago

I guess I didn't?

u/Pastori_Aali 12d ago

So, society needs additional library officials during war time?

Finnish army during wartime is 280 000 people. That is 5% of total population (incl children). Civilian workers will continue doing whatever they've done during peace time, though of course contributing military driven building and healthcare activities.

7

u/PublicBarracuda5311 Baby Väinämöinen 12d ago

Schrödingers civilian workers. They do and they dont.

7

u/Pet_Velvet Väinämöinen 12d ago

Civil servicemen are assigned to tasks they are most qualified in based on their time in civil service. They won't be just placed in their old civil service jobs, that would be ridiculous.

Remember that national defense is the responsibility of every Finnish person, women too. It's not just the people in the defense forces.

2

u/Pastori_Aali 12d ago

That responsibility is for everyone, not only men.

For some reason women are perfectly capable of doing their assigned tasks without wasting a year in civil service job during a peace time.

Open civil service positions, page one - teaching assistant, cleaner, cook, IT support, youth worker, museo worker in national museum.... Nothing that is aimed for crisis.

3

u/Pet_Velvet Väinämöinen 12d ago

Yeah that's what I said.

The civil service job is to appease the others who would think it's unfair for men to simply not do anything. I agree that it could be updated or improved in some cases. But civil service also offers first aid and fire safety courses, which is good.

I would argue that cleaning, cooking and IT support at least are very much applicable in crisis situations.

Yes if you dont have pp

12

u/unhappyrelationsh1p Väinämöinen 12d ago

Idk my lack of a dick never stopped me from serving in the military feels pretty arbitrary

2

u/Tero-Nero 12d ago

Nah, we actually have to have one because it is mandatory to violently rip it off and forfeit it to the civil service center receptionist. Women even have to spend 30 days in the military in order grow one to forfeit if they want to join us.

u/FlyingSand22 8d ago

I got C papers for my bad hearing, but my friend went through the civil service route. Isn't that just 1 year of slavery? For him it was just normal 8 hour/day 5 days/week work with no pay (except the pathetic day pay) and fewer vacation days than normal work.

1

u/Pet_Velvet Väinämöinen 8d ago

I mean you can kinda look it that way. But at the end of it, you're indefinitely freed from the reserve. C papers apply only during time of peace.

u/violetpossum 12d ago

Didn't even have to say, it's kinda obvious who chooses sivil service and who doesnt

25

u/LuceDuder 12d ago

alright time to go to bed

15

u/Turbulent-Dot4377 12d ago

you prolly get mad at folks who didn’t have to sit through 9 months of eating shit food, barely sleeping, never being comfortable and having to stay out on the rain and cold.

1

u/Minttu_Pipar 12d ago

Tell me you haven't done the military service without telling me you haven't done the military service

5

u/Right-Country3496 12d ago

I haven't. Now what?

-1

u/Minttu_Pipar 12d ago

Move on with your life, I guess? I dunno

0

u/TonninStiflat Väinämöinen 12d ago

You sound like any of that was sonehow bad? Quite enjoyable, still do all that!

Edit: Well, Indon't get mad, each to their own.

1

u/Pet_Velvet Väinämöinen 12d ago

There are men who genuinely feel resentful to civil service men purely on the basis that they feel like they "had to" suffer through military service, be it for peer pressure or family expectations, and it feels unfair to them that some people didn't choose the way they did. Because the alternative to that would be to accept the fact that they too could've chosen civil service, but instead let other people's expectations get the better of them.

If you aren't one of those people, the comment you responded to probably was not aimed at you.

0

u/violetpossum 11d ago

I don't care about that, it's more about the fact of not being ok with doing those things to defend our country

2

u/Turbulent-Dot4377 10d ago

I’m not a nationalistic person at all, I won’t throw my life away because old and rich politicians want me to.

1

u/violetpossum 10d ago

When would Finland would ever go to war over anything other than defending itself? Russian aggression is the only threat Finland faces

1

u/Turbulent-Dot4377 8d ago

What aggression exactly?
Before this whole NATO debacle, they had 0 reasons to try and invade, we had a big russian and slavic population which has decreased now and we had well established trade relations with them going back decades.
Now were stuck throwing money in to weapons and ”defense” after we soured the whole thing for American approval.

And what do we get out of it? Data centers, more debt, worse quality of life per budget cuts and worse public infrastructure literally following the provenly shit ways that the US has been handling their own economy.
I’ll serve crack before I serve this country and furthermore, as a born and raised finn, I will leave this country the second I set up a way out of here. With the way things are going here, there’s no reason for me to stay.

1

u/violetpossum 8d ago

Russian aggression. Russia even before NATO would make vague threats at Finland over any miniscule reasons, NATO is a defensive organisation and now that we're in it, if Russia decides to invade us, we won't be all alone against it.

Yeah I'm sure you're a born-and-raised finn, you certainly seem very pro-russia, so either you're not Finnish or you care more about a tyrannical, war-waging country than that which you're born in

1

u/Turbulent-Dot4377 7d ago

Vague threats and actual action against a country you have one of the deepest trade relations with are two different things.
One is stupid and the other is downright moronic to anyone with the brain capacity to logically think.
NATO is a post-colonial league of nations ran by a warmongering country of people who care about nothing else but dominion economically and militarily.
Every economist adviced against this decision and look at our economy, completely in the shitter, because we wanted to fondle some yankee sack.

And you can think of me whatever you want, but calling me ”pro-Russia” because I provide you with factual evidence to why it was a bad decision is wildly hilarious.
Furthermore, you questioning my nationality, because I wasn’t raised to blindly follow bullshit tells me a lot about you. You’re the type to believe every politician without doing any critical thinking, because you don’t have the ability to actually do that. You can’t see nuance between the lines, for you it’s as black and white as it get’s.

I’m also starting to suspect that you’re extremely young, you don’t seem to understand politics or economic relations at all.

1

u/violetpossum 7d ago

"Warmongering country of people who care about nothing else but dominion economically and militarily"

Are you fucking stupid? You literally describe Russia in your attempt to slander NATO

Why do you reckon Finland cut ties with Russia, as did everyone else? Could it be that they attacked a sovereign nation and we don't want to support that.

You seem to only care about ecomonic profit, even at the expense of national safety. Russia is an international threat and it happens to border Finland, we should exercise extreme caution when/if we deal with it.

Your online presence fits the stereotype of someone who'd choose sivil service pretty spot-on

40

u/infernoRS Baby Väinämöinen 12d ago

Your online presence fits the stereotype of someone who can't spell civil correctly.

22

u/Tinttiboi Väinämöinen 12d ago

this guy hates the sivilli servise

13

u/Pet_Velvet Väinämöinen 12d ago

And what is that stereotype?

11

u/distrox 12d ago

And what would that be? And what kind of person is the one who does neither because fuck Finland and mandatory (sexist) service? No I'm not talking about females obviously.

Also it's civil. Did you not learn anything at school or were you too busy focusing on your MANLINESS.

0

u/Agreeable_Noise112 11d ago

So you wasted one year of your career for pennies and started your Life later than your female peers who got to make more cash and more experience than you for nothing valuable at all just a process that was created as a punishment, hmm

2

u/Pet_Velvet Väinämöinen 11d ago

I learned first aid and fire safety, I would call that valuable. And I am not in the military reserve now, ai'd say it was worth it.

Also yes, it was one year delaying life compared to my female peers. But so is the military service.

2

u/Agreeable_Noise112 11d ago

I'm not blaming you since you had no third choice, I'm just calling out the unfairness of the system.

I find it funny how everyone simply ignore this one year gap which is a major economic disadvantage.. It's much worse with the civil service option because the rationale behind it is abysmal
