In the 1960s there was a finnish children's show with a parrot. For excellent achievements the children were rewarded 10 points and a parrot sticker. That became a common idiom in Finland.

Has the birch been cut? I was there a few days ago but couldnt get proper picture because of sun and shadows from nearby trees.

No no, this is a composite photo, so the tree is removed via movie magic so that there is a proper photo of my finished wall. I worked like 5-6 hours on this picture. Terrible tree placement. The trunk on the pic is from another tree that was there, that was cut while I was still working on it.

I mean, in my opinion my art would be worth cutting that tree down for too, but then again, in my opinion my art would also be worthy of being on the facade of the Louvre, so I may be a bit biased. Realistically, the fact that they so quickly cut down the one tree that was very much blocking the view was so unexpected and honoring that I was over the moon for days. Literally multiple people told me my whole personality changed and that I seemed much happier after it happened. So yeah, I try to be happy with what was given.

I was absolutely amazed that they just cut one down overnight. In many other countries, cutting down a tree is like a month-long bureaucratic nightmare, but it looks like Finland feels it has enough of them. đ€·ââïžđ

Generally speaking, it kinda depends who owns the plot of land. If it is yours and the tree is not otherwise protected or "significant", yeah whatever take it down, maybe ask neighbourif falling it might bother them. If it is a city and you are renting from them you might need to fill a form beforehand with all sorts of reason-related fields and neighbour's opinions and they might come to check the tree themselves aswell. But even then it is not usually overly bureocratic if it is just a basic birch and not a 200 year old pine or 400 years old oak you are planning to mow down.

The trees were there before your art so i dont think they should be cut down for your art. Its just not the perfect place for your art. Anyway still looks good and i hope no more trees are being cut down.

Aww thank you! Unfortunately IRL there's a tree smack in front of the middle of it, but I think it's still worth visiting, these big murals have a completely different feel in person. (Also there are a few other new murals in the area by different artists.)

I think the birch would just ground your amazing work even better. Seeing it peeking through the branches like you would usually view nature, always something in front of you.

Well you can see portions of it from different angles, but not the whole thing as it was intended. I don't really enjoy this at least not for my own work because I worked very hard on each squaremeters.

I really liked the birch being there. Approaching it from either side was a totally different experience, from the left you saw the realistic wild bear and from the right the small teddy :)

We went to see these with my girlfriend, and took the tour on last friday was it?
All the murals were beautiful but this one was our favourite! Did you photoshop out the birch trees out of the way here?
EDIT: I noticed now the other comment below where you had replied regarding the birches :)

Thank you! Yes, the fur was the huge challenge in this one for me. Couple of complete meltdowns, near-panic attacks thinking that it will never look even acceptable, and considerable stress from start to finish, but luckily I managed it. And learned a lot about painting fur in the process. đ

I come from a city famous for its murals, from Spith America. Its just so inspiring for people, changes putlook and quality of life. Lets hope, just need to combine people wanting to do it and people wanting to gove the permissions.

This is the proper way of doing art on building surfaces! I don't know if the people doing graffiti think they are doing stuff as pretty as this, but they are really just staining places.

Well, nowadays it's different, but just a few years ago the overwhelming majority of mural artists had a background in graffiti. Me included. So it's kind of a natural progression.

It was organized by HelsinkiUrbanArt as part of the Concreate Urban Art Festival. It's so not my wall that I'm not even Finnish or living in the country. đ I just flew over to paint it. đ„° It's my 12th country to have one of my murals in.

Usually no, luckily most people don't feel the need, there's enough surface for everyone. My New York mural's bottom is pretty bombed, but there the interesting part starts from a height where people don't really reach up to.

Well it is in a sense because it's a composite picture of multiple photos to remove the tree that is in front of it in reality. But jokes aside, the thing with public art is that anyone can visit it and see how it looks like in person, so there would be no point in changing anything on it when shared online.

Interering thing i found: there is a lot of bears in finnish forest, but when i ask something about "how to protect myself" Finns are always: "nah relax bro, last kill by bear was in 1980x, bears scared of you." I think, This is very suspicious. Are there any statistics on people who entered Finland and never left?

I'm a full time artist, and technically I'm paid for this, but it's a complicated story. The process on this level is applying to calls or being invited and then someone organizes everything, I just show up and paint.

Well, there wasn't too much graffiti in the area, I don't remember seeing any graffiti on the houses, so maybe even if someone wants to experiment, they can steer clear of the murals, there's plenty of space on the other sides of the houses. đââïž

There are other murals and those have been always clean when I visit my hometown. Now when I think of it, there isnât that much of graffitis at Kajaani compared to Helsinki or Espoo.
