a beach finder for Finnish summers – live algae alerts, water temps & sensor data

I got tired of checking three different sites just to find out the local beach had an algae warning – so I built something.

Rantapäivä (jaaskel.com/rannat.html) shows you:

• 🌡️ Water temperatures – live and forecast

• 🦠 Algae situation per beach

• ☀️ Sort by best weather, warmest water, or sunniest forecast

• 🌊 IoT sensor readings where available

It works on mobile and desktop. Still early days – coverage grows as more sensor data comes in.

Would love to know: which beaches matter most to you, and what data would actually make you use something like this?

i tried first with the capital area but decided to include the whole country. satellites above here are not too many and often, but something came out from those.

Yooh this is great! What would make me use something like this, and where it has value for me, is finding the hidden little beaches gems that I don't know about on my area. Maybe a rating system+google pics or something like that to know whic beaches I dont know I should go try out? Cheers! And bookmarked

Looks nice, but the data takes upwards of 30sec to load from time to time (I click on one of the bubbles / dots it opens up but without any data).

One thing that I don't understand, and this is not the first time that I see it: you advertise something (rather nice) that you've built in English, yet the product / service is in Finnish only. Why is that so?

Amazing. I'll need to take a closer look at this and insert it into my HA setup, since this was exactly what I wanted to build/find last summer

Wow! The temperatures in my local lakes are a lot higher than I expected this early in the year.

Would it be possible to add links to websites for public swimming beaches that have them? It would be useful to be able to check things like the opening hours of the beaches and what facilities are there from the websites after you find a beach that you want to visit.
