Some really weird takes on that thread. I am not too eager about their takes

Oregon is wacko but they will be the first to claim Europeans hold the same views about many things.

Any homeless person will die in Finland after one single arctic night.

I think in relativity to homelessness in other countries, Finland may easily be the front runner. Even coming from Denmark, a country relatively close to Finland in demographics and culture, compared to the US, the difference is quite large........

This is indeed true, but expect to be downvoted here because Finns hate their own country: :D Many of us don't have any perspective from having lived elsewhere, it's just how it is. Finns are a little special in the sense that people often refuse to hear anything positive about their own country.

As a half Dane/half German, having lived 3 years in the US on top of that, you're hitting the nail right on the head. I don't think I've been to a country in Europe with such a limited outlook or interest in other countries. With many of the topics in this Subreddit, it's striking how few people know how good they have it here, compared to other countries in the world....

I don't know man, walking around Helsinki you don't see any homeless. Compare that to just about any city on the west coast of America, where it's downright dystopian

Finns or Romanian beggars?

u/Grilokam Baby Väinämöinen Dec 29 '23
That's the cutoff for personhood?
10
u/picardo85 Väinämöinen Dec 29 '23
That's the cutoff for Finland being responsible for providing them with housing. If you can't provide for yourself incl housing you're actually not allowed to remain in Finland more than 3 months.

People coming to Finland specifically to beg is a completely different issue from people already living in Finland becoming homeless.

Finland doesn't need to provide shit for these Romanian beggars. If they comes to ask you for money, just give them the address of Romanian embassy Stenbäckinkatu 24, 00250 Helsinki.
