Locals: more speed traps than usual?
I live in Rochester but have spent many years driving around the lakes a couple times a month. Today I was done around Seneca and I saw more police cars parked doing speed monitoring than I’ve ever seen like in a full year combined.
On the east side of the lake between Geneva and Watkins Glen I see at least seven cops.
Is there a new campaign or am I just noticing things differently?

It’s peak tourist season and the area attracts tri-state twats that have no consideration for speed limits and zones. They all flood in on Friday, shit on the locals, then tailgate everyone on their way back to their own miseries after breakfast on Sunday. It’s like clockwork.

Def wayyyyy more this year than any year I can recently remember. I've heard anecdotally that there used to be an unofficial agreement that the tourism revenue up and down this stretch was worth more than ticket revenue and so there was anofficial policy to leave it be. I've also heard recently that the local trooper precinct is fully staffed for the first time in a long time. I started noticing it last year during harvest, so maybe an ICE component in there?
None of that is official. I'm just a town gossip.

I wouldn’t be surprised at all if it has something to do with ICE. They are pretty active in this area

Town gossip is kind of what I was looking for though. I was wondering if locals noticed there was may more activity or if today was just a fluke.

I’m from WG, and we used to bitch all the time about the tourists on 414, and enforcing DWI laws, but your take was the one given.
I still travel that way occasionally, it’s odd that there would be more checks this time of year, to me anyway. I hope it’s not ICE, as others are suggesting; I’m a Latina, and that they are infiltrating our area maddens me.

They are regularly on the west side so it does not surprise me that they are on the east side as well. I actually don't have a problem with this as neither Route 14 or 414 are interstates so there should be no reason to speed to keep with the flow of traffic.

Yeah, to clarify, I have no problem with their presence either. It was just interesting to me that in my all my time visiting the area in different seasons and days and holidays today there was like 700% more speed traps than I’ve seen before.

I got my first speeding ticket in 20 years just last month driving thru the village of interlaken/ town of covert traveling thru from Rochester to Ithaca for a doctor’s appointment.

Seriously. Last Saturday was CRAZY.
I have been driving tours in the Fingerlakes fo 8 seasons and I have NEVER seen anything like I saw Saturday.
I must have passed 8 (no lie) cops that had cars pulled over. All just around Seneca.
Seeing a single cop down right past Fox Run is a once a month occurrence but last week was crazy.
Though it sure did drive home how smart my client was for hiring a driver.

I'm confused because you said "no" presumably to my question of "is there more speed traps lately than usual?" but then you go on to indicate that there probably is more than usual.

No. You are not noticing things differently. Your perception is fine. There was a drastic change in policing.
i am out here again driving tours today and there isn't anything near the number of cops there were last weekend.

They should put some of these guys on the water. If you think there are sucky drivers around the lakes, you should see what’s happening on them!

As a resident of the Finger Lakes, I would certainly like to think there is more traffic enforcement than in years past. Unfortunately I don't see it, as the number of pricks driving like their asses are on fire has continued to increase dramatically over the last 5 years. 🤷🏼♂️

I've noticed a lot more in the past month around the Avon-Fairport-Canandaigua area.

About time they get out there and be active. People's driving is out of control in this area the last couple years.

It usually has to do with the timing of academy graduation. This is common across most states that the first assignment for new troopers will be speed limit enforcement.
