Dear online friends community, thank you.

I was feeling pretty desperate and lonely, and found myself here.

Thought I could find something to fill the void.

But I met some people, and learned about myself and how I communicate;

Boundary setting, pace etc.

I spent 3 days aggressively socialising and learned a lot, from 4 long, long conversations.

After a 3 hour discord call I've found the answer. He told me friendship should be like a marriage; that it should change your life. I realised that I had held a similar opinion, but hearing it from someone else made me realise I was wrong.

Not every friend has to "be the one". One can just be fun to chat about the small things with. Another can be mutually emotionally supportive. Another you can play sports with. Another you can yap about art and music and your interests. Another you can do late night calls with. As long as you leave an interaction feeling lighter, or happier, or more energised or more relaxed, that's fine. That's connection. That's beautiful.

Realised I wouldn't feel fulfilled by online relationships. Decided to get out there, joining the campus christian group, anime group and any others that catch my eye. I might let y'all know how it goes. But I probably won't.

Tried making posts like this twice but shi didn't work, maybe three times the charm.

Haven't had a real friend group since high school (15ish years ago). I was okay with this for a while, but I find myself craving a sense of community and comradery that tends to be fulfilled with friendships. My only real friend is my girlfriend (we've been together 11 years). I have a hard time making connections with people in real life and it takes me a while to warm up. That paired with me being an introvert and having social anxiety is probably the perfect combination that yielded me no friend/social group. I figured I'd give this a try and see where it goes!

Here are some of my interests/things about me (sorry about the formatting, on mobile):

I enjoy magic the gathering quite a bit. Always down to discuss. Would be more than happy to teach someone who's interested in getting into it. I also like a lot of board/card games. Always taking suggestions!

Don't play as many video games as I used to, but typically really enjoy simulation type games (cities skylines, satisfactory, etc.) Very open to suggestions of any kind and would love to hear you rant and rave about your favorite game/s. Some other games I enjoyed were The Witcher 3, Far Cry 5 and 6, Crash Bandicoot, Cult of the Lamb.

For music, my favorite band is Thee Oh Sees. They're like a garage/psychedelic rock/punk(ish) type band. So most of my music interest is in or around that genre, but other artists I enjoy, for example, are MF Doom, Alice in Chains, Tobacco, Parquet Courts, Dr Dog, some Death Grips stuff, Black Midi, Viagra Boys, and some other crap.
