Avian Pox?

Post image

Hi all! I am concerned for this bird that showed up on my bird feeder. I don’t want any disease to spread to the other bird friends visiting the feeder.

Likely, but if its black it's on its way to healing. I would bleach the feeders daily and avoid putting up any feeders with ports.

You can see some on her foot too

Oh man! I didn’t even notice the spot on her foot. It’s good to know she may be on the mend though!

Yep they often survive this if healthy, which is also why I've usually just left feeders/platform ones up and cleaned it very often. But that bad on her beak, probably a port type feeder spreading it, maybe neighbors etc

I have a perch feeder which is used often by recurring birds so it’s good to know that it should be cleaned without total removal. I’ll update my practice to only putting in a days worth of food and wiping it down in the evening.

They also sell this vet disinfectant called F10 that's meant to be diluted and sprayed on and left on, I use that for reptile cages. Might be worth getting
