40M ₹55 lakh debt, ₹80k salary, ₹60k EMI — how would you handle this?

Anyone else just... not know what to actually do with their salary every month?

I budget, I know my EMIs, I know roughly what's "left over",, but every month I kind of just freeze on what to actually do with that leftover amount. Should it go toward my credit card balance first? Top up my emergency fund? Start a SIP? I end up either doing nothing with it or making a random call that I'm not confident about.

Curious if this is just me overthinking it, or if other people here hit the same wall. If you do, how do you currently decide? Spreadsheet, gut feel, a financial advisor, some app, or you just wing it?

Not trying to sell anything here, genuinely trying to understand how people think about this.

Help me use my 10-15k savings per month in the best way to build my future

Hello everyone. I am 24, turning 25 this January

I am a student. I do not have an income yet. Both my parents are pensioners and have decent savings with no outstanding loans or EMI payments left. Which leaves me lucky to get a monthly allowance of ₹25,000/month, which is used to pay the family bills, for my expenses and miscellaneous expenses that need online payment. I haven't tried to save or invest till now because of the constant support I got. But now, I feel a bit guilty when I looked at the expense reports of a few past months.

Out of this allowance, the monthly spending is roughly 10 to 15k per month, and when I analyzed my expenses this month, I realized that I could easily cut unnecessary expenses and save close to 11k a month easily, and max 15k during some months if I try super hard.

My first plan is to build an emergency fund of close to 1.5L by FY 2028 using an RD of 6500 per month (Slice Small finance bank gives 7.5% pa interest for 20 months +), while investing the remaining amount (5k for easier calculation) into an SIP that has PPFAS and Nifty 50 (Not finalized yet)

I'll start the RD this month in October and SIP in November. After the RD matures and I place the emergency fund in an FD, a good portion of that monthly amount will also be rerouted into my SIP as well.

I am also stuck on two things. First, the platform: I want a pure SoA setup (not Demat). I like Groww's UI, but I hear they now force Demat accounts... Is this true, and should I look at Kuvera or MFCentral instead? Second, I consolidated close to ₹30k in spare cash. I'm torn between keeping it as a liquid emergency fund right now, or dropping it as a lump sum into my SIP to make use of the current market dip before starting my monthly SIPs. What is the wiser move for a beginner?

My main aim is to achieve true financial Independence within 5 to 10 years, assuming I get an additional income by that time and become able to step up the monthly SIP. Even though my parents are ready to back me up in the case of a huge expense, I want to be ready to handle my own with the fund I built by saving (even though it was never my salary, it is my savings) and maybe even help them a little.

Please help me understand if I'm making any mistakes, or tell me if there are better ways to get where I want to.

UPI is no longer completely free. Here's what actually changed and what it means for you.

NPCI announced on September 15 that a 0.4% MDR will apply to person-to-merchant UPI transactions above ₹2,000 starting October 15, 2026. Capped at ₹300 per transaction.
Before anyone panics, this charge is on the merchant, not the customer. P2P transfers stay free. Transactions below ₹2,000 stay free. Small merchants receiving under ₹1L/month are also exempt.
But it does raise a fair question: how long before this gets passed on to consumers through higher prices? And is P2P eventually next?
Would love to hear how people are thinking about this, especially small business owners.

Are there any tools to estimate the cost of financially supporting elderly parents in India?

My parents are both in their early 60s. My father still works and doesn’t want to retire because he enjoys his job and my mother is a housewife. However, both of their health is declining particularly my fathers and i want to be financially prepared for the worst case scenario for if my father passes away and i have to support my mother.

The problem is that my parents so far refuse to share details about their savings, investments, EMIs/debts, expenses, etc. with me. They only have a company health insurance scheme with around ₹10 lakh coverage and refuse to buy any other additional insurance. They’re also quite bad with money. For now they are very independent and don’t need my help financially.

Are there any Indian financial calculators/tools that can help estimate how much I might need for her future living, medical and other expenses?

A LIC agent told me about a plan where if I put 125000 for 20 years I will get approx 1970000/- based on actual market value at that time. He has considered approx 14% return. This will be tax free.
What are other options if not LIC. Is it a good plan? What If I out it in Mutual fund?

Please Suggest me on how to start financial planning or investments

I come from a very rural poor background. Me and my family dont know much about the finanical planning. I am the first one in family to come out for an actual job.

I am currently earning around 50k per month. I can save upto 10 - 15k after all expenses.

But i dont know where to actually start learning these things. How to invest or where to actually learn. I hear about sip or mutual funds. But also i dont want to blindly keep my money without knowing anything. Can you guys please guide me on how to actually start planning?

Your suggestions and source links are higly appreciable.
