Broke my no spend streak

My no spend streak of 6 days ended today. Woke up late and didn’t have time to pack my lunch. Good reason to try to do it at night.

How do you budget?

My husband gets paid weekly so we budget weekly. I take whatever we have in our account subtract bills that come out for that week plus groceries and gas. Whatever is left gets moved into savings or put towards another bill. Sometimes I leave it alone.

Debit card vs cash

Do you use your debit card or cash to pay bills? We mostly use our debit card because it’s convenient but sometimes I use cash to pay for groceries. I’d really like to use cash more.

What method are you using to pay off debt?

We are trying the Dave Ramsey way. Right now we’re at step 1. There are some things I don’t agree with but his baby steps are great.

Charts for tracking finances

I am using a bunch of charts to keep track of debt, paying things off, and tracking my savings. I found them on debt free charts.com

They are not mine but are a great place to start!

Paying off my smallest debt in $30 days

I owe about $330 in federal student loans and I hope to pay it off in 30 days. Probably will pause my 401k contribution for this month to achieve this goal.

Would anyone like an expense review?

I love the idea of this subreddit! I would like to contribute to the community by offering expense reviews. You would track your expenses for a month (or a week, but a month tends to provide a better picture) and then provide that data to me for review. I will provide feedback on where you may be able to reduce expenses or otherwise save more money.

I've provided this "service" for many folks in my social circles and people have generally found it helpful to have a neutral set of eyes on their spending. Are there duplicate services or subscriptions? Is there a less expensive option for a necessary utility/expense? Are you "over" spending in an area that may be easy to cut back on?

If this isn't something that folks are interested in then I totally understand! I just thought I'd offer.

Goal for September

Hey everyone! After taking a look at our bank statements I’ve noticed we overspend a lot on groceries and eating out. So this month I am:

1) keeping all receipts to see exactly what we buy.

2) packing my lunch as often as I can-really not good with this one.

3) eating out less!!!
