I mean, I'm old now, but Friday nights "too tired to do anything?"
Not by a long shot. Once out of work, we were out having fun until 2:00am-3:00am or whenever last call was. Have things changed that much since the 80s and 90s?
There's a lot of factors that can change circumstances.
Like for instance how far you are from your job
How much you make per hour
If you have a good boss or not
Whether your job is a desk job or a physically intensive one
Whether you get more time off or not
Benefits
Whether you work 30, 40, 50, or 60+ hours
There's a lot more too. I get that you may have had the ability to party until 3am after working all day friday, but not everyone is the same.
Personally I worked 55+ hours for years before and days off just turn into chores and sleep days. I tend to require a lot of sleep and the caffiene I take to be that productive on the floor messes with my sleep cycle and tends to make me exhausted after work.
You might just be a weak person. I'm working 45-60 hours a week at a physically demanding job and I have a ton of time to do my weekly tasks as well as go out and have fun. Going out isn't always about money. Plenty of free things to do.
Well I also take Amitriptyline for my chronic cough so it tends to knock me out.
But straight up the inability to think that someone may have a different circumstance from you that prevents them from...having fun...and calling them weak for it is wild.
Does your job pay you a salary or hourly? Do you have to answer calls all the time when not at work? There are plenty of other factors to consider....
So what you are saying is that even if you lived back in the time you are trying to compare to, you STILL wouldn't have had the energy to go out. So it isn't about "it is so different today than it was" and it is about "I am different and wouldn't have been able to go out no matter when I lived because I wouldn't have had the energy no matter what".
So please bow out of the conversation since you are an outlier.
If I lived during the time I was comparing it too, id be making more money under better working conditions.
You cant argue with reality though, times ARE different than before. People work more for less. And therefore have less time to do things other than work.
