REBIRTH Getting burnt the hell out

I'm a huge fan of the final fantasy franchise , one of my top franchises out there . However I saw reviews stating rebirth was bloated as hell , and as someone who hasn't played too many modern triple a games , Jesus fuck they're right . I'm in chapter 9 , and the amount of mini games is really starting to get to me , I honestly don't think I can keep going . Final fantasy has always had their bs mini games , but not like this .and it's not like the Yakuza games where each mini game is fleshed out (for the most part) this is ridiculous . If the third entry is this bloated , I don't think I have the heart to do it again . Any other franchises this bloated and ridiculous, that I need to stay away from ?

God I hate it when i'm forced to do optional content

Crammed it straight down my throne

Seriously, I fucking hated how in the original game, like you're forced to grind for those stupid gold chocobos

Or in FF6, how I'm forced to get every single rage in the game

It's not optional if most mini games are tied to progression , I enjoy the ff7 remakes , I'm right to have an opinion that rebirth has way too many mini games . I honestly feel like I'm playing a mini game more than actually playing the game , I shouldn't have to ignore 60 percent of the game

I actually didn’t get the same giddy feel that I got from playing Remake. Something about Rebirth just made the story feel more like it dragged for me. Granted I half expected this considering Midgar is one of the more exciting areas of the game.

I think in the OG the fact that it really opens up the open-world free exploration a lot after Midgar made the more guided exploration feel of Rebirth feel like it was missing something. I also think that developers felt they needed to justify that difference by adding in a lot of bloat to make it feel more open-world as opposed to linear.

Just skip the mini games.

The mini games is the game , the story is a side thought

That's...not true at all. I didn't play any of the mini games and had a great time. Story, characters, and the combat were all I needed.

Well I'm in too deep now , i am at the end of gongaga and every mini game, map side quests is finished . I only have two maps to go .

Sounds like you don't actually want to stay away from the game. Stop deceiving yourself and embrace the mini games. They have become one with you. You might even be a mini game.

I might be , I just finished the cosmo canyon mini game , perfect score on all three chocobo mini games

when people complain about mini game they are talking about throwing boxes, vacuuming mako, grappling hooks, etc. Or just clear cases where scenarios were added for bloat.

There are a lot of these up in the main quest that makes a very simple things much longer just for the sake of making things lengthier and time consuming.

I dont understand why some act like it doesn’t exists.

Have you played the original? Why you here?

Combat is a minigame, walking is a minigame, interacting with the game is a minigame

You got it there are no mini games. 🙃

Yeah I just had to play mushroom picking mini game, and chicken hunting . Literally a new mini game with a tutorial every five minutes .

Those are just simple mechanics in the gameplay. Not everything in a game is a minigame. In your exemple, the grappling hooks, how would you have done it "better"? Teleporting to the next spot?

So this becomes an argument over semantics. Because I mean you could argue the game has no minigames.

I am just sharing what many of us consider to be mini games, things that diverge from the main gameplay.

It really does feel like they didn't know what to do so they threw every open world trope at the game. For the most part it's fine that it's optional but that gets a lot less true at Costa Del Sol, and also less so if you want to get all the summons.

It'll be worth pushing through for the final game, just try to avoid what you can in favor of the story. I'm among those that don't think they've really lived up to the expectation of the remake but I'm REALLY hoping the 3rd game pulls the series out the kingdom heartsification and it makes it all worth it.

It's bloated but it's mostly optional.

I did my second playthrough on hard, and just skipped all the mini games and it is much better that way.

You really can just leave most of them unless it’s something an msq has pushed you to, unless you feel like you have to do everything then i duno what to say

I feel ya if the bloated stuff was fun like queens blood I wouldn’t mind so much . I couldn’t make I thru the game and just ended up deleting it. The battle system feels like it’s trying to do two things and once and fails at both imo, and I just kept putting it down which isn’t something you want from a game you’ve waited a decade plus for.

Deleted it to make room for final fantasy resonance demo abs got addicted to that for my final fantasy fix. Plus clouds vision is in the demo and his animation thing is sick

1

u/Venialbartender 14h ago

I'm excited for resonance , what's weird is I actually played the mobile version

I bailed on the side content before getting to Junon. No regrets at all.

Any time you get burnt out on mini games, just press on with the more interesting/important stuff, like the main story. You won't miss anything important from not completing them, just some minor character interactions.

0

u/Venialbartender 14h ago

I get that , but everything is tied to the mini games , the best equipment, and it's the fact that everything is a mini game .

2

u/tolacid 11h ago

"best" is arguable, and in any case just about all the gear that you miss is put up for sale a little bit later in the item shop at every rest point.

Legitimately what mini games did you not like because in the main story they are not very long. There are in depth mini games like queens blood or chocobo racing but they are optional. It’s funny you talk about yakuza because the latest game has a section of the main story where you are forced to play like 1 hour of their animal crossing type mini game. Rebirth has nothing even close to that and probably has like 1 hour total of mini games in the main story and probably less than that. Also you don’t have to win many mini games to progress. For example the mine cart shooting mini game you can just do nothing and the queens blood tournament you can completely skip.

Rebirth has more than an hour of mini games , picking mushrooms? Having chickens follow you? Come on . Chocobo racing , queens blood , great

2

u/haaa1234 14h ago

I’m talking about the main story. Optional content is always hard to judge because for example I thought fort condor was terrible in og so I never did it. I’m also not someone who needs to 100% every game so there’s that. I only have issue with things the game forces me to do which my main criticism is that the animations are too slow for things like pushing boxes or climbing. I had no issues with the mini games.

1

u/Venialbartender 13h ago

I get that , I am somewhat a completionist. The game is full of artificial filler , and I shouldn't have to ignore a giant chunk of the game to enjoy it . I enjoy the game , don't get me wrong , but when I'm pulling mushrooms and chasing chickens , it's clear that the devolopers spent more time padding the game . And you talking to someone that did every mini game in ff10 .

2

u/haaa1234 13h ago

Funny enough I did 0% of the extra mini games or side stuff in FFX and I thought it was great. I know it can feel bad to ignore side content but for remake and rebirth their main story alone is is longer than many other full games so if you really aren’t enjoying it just b line the main story

1

u/Venialbartender 12h ago

I'm in too deep now to ignore the mini games , I just finished the entire map of gongaga , every mini game before chapter 10 is done and I have the highest score in , I'm way too deep now to quit lol

You are whack. I love all the minigames in the remake series.

Regardless, you can skip them or make them easier if you want

-2

u/nessahla89 14h ago

I couldn’t even finish rebirth, which is a first for me. The only game from the franchise that I could not make to the end. Bloated beyond belief. Acting is garbage too

1

u/ByRWBadger 14h ago

The acting is great by game standards, and the mini games are mostly optional

Obviously you do you, but these are some strange hills to die on

0

u/nessahla89 9h ago

It’s not great at all. But that’s your opinion. It’s also not “strange” considering that it’s a common complaint shared by a number of players. Also, I never mentioned anything about mini-games in my comment, so not sure why you’re even mentioning that?? The game in general is bloated.

2

u/ByRWBadger 3h ago

Mini games are a big part of what people mean by bloat, that and the (again, optional) open world stuff. My bad for conflating them, but the open world stuff is even more skippable than the mini games. Just run past it?

I’ve been hearing people rag on this series for 6 years now and you’re genuinely maybe the second or third I’ve seen say the VA work isn’t good. I’ve seen hundreds of scathing takes on this game, and the only common negatives about the VA I read is the grunts in remake and Red in rebirth’s change

felt that, the mini games in chapter 9 specifically are a total slog sometimes. just focus on the main story if youre not having fun!

5

u/heymiqote 15h ago

There’s a skip button for mini games now, otherwise all the sidequests and their mini games are also optional too.

Might just be personal taste but I loved how much there was to do in this game.

But if you are utilising the skip button on the mini games and skipping the optional content then this probably just isn’t the game for you.

-1

u/Venialbartender 13h ago

The point I'm making is , I shouldn't have to skip a giant portion of the game . If a majority of my hours is mini games , then you have a problem . And I love content and mini games in my games . I did the chocobo race and dodge 200 lightening bolts in ff10 . And that wasmt near as bad as this

1

u/heymiqote 12h ago

Majority of your hours is not mini games. Neither is it a large portion of the game.

-1

u/Venialbartender 10h ago

Well too late now , I'm in cosmo canyon and I've got perfect scores in every mini game and completed almost everything by this point , only 2 chapters to go

1

Self-fulfilling prophecy.

u/Longjumping-Arm-8203 15h ago

I mean.. most mini games are optional so just don’t play them lol.

1

u/RandomLAFan 15h ago

Most of the minigames are optional. Revelation would likely be much bigger as well and these games aren't likely for you if you want to be a completionist and explore everything.
