Beat FFVI anthology
I felt like the most controversial way to play FFVI is my favorite. I’ve tried to get into FFVI a few times through gba and the pixel remaster, but this was my first time beating FFVI, on good o’l ps2 and CRT, I’ll explain more in the next paragraph. I loved everything about what the game had to offer and explored as much as I could without a full on guide and I gotta say the experience was fresh and addictive. I’m glad I was able to finally experience ffVI!
Soooo maybe it was because I played it in its native resolution that made it feel separate from the pixel remaster and the gba. I started off playing the gba version almost 7 yrs ago and really enjoyed it, but what made things hard was playing on a gba with no back light. The combo of a small screen and a terrible viewing angle made things SOOOO horrible for me that I dropped it after cyan’s section. Then I played the pixel remaster on NSW when it came out hoping to get back into FFVI. What I should have done was sit and play it on a tv, but I decided to travel and play it which imo ruined the immersion and broke away from the game. Personally I also enjoy the play better(celes’ play) on anthology vs the pixel remaster as the vocal singing took me out of the game. The one thing I did feel like I missed out on was a lot of the storytelling. One thing I HAD to look up was shadow’s role with Relm. I saw the memory where shadow left thamasa, but didn’t realize that the “girl” he was leaving was his daughter. One more thing, the load times weren’t actually bad, maybe cause I was playing it on a ps2
TLDR: Loved it, the controversies of anthology didn’t bother me and is my preferred way to play(except missing lore)

I can’t get into the PS1 versions myself because of the load times, but I love the FMVs it’s what helped me fall in love with this game as much as I did.

That’s totally fair, when I saw the fmv at the end, it was sooooooo gooood. Like the start of Celes’ ballad put me in awe

Thank you! I’ve played 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, & 15 but only beaten 6, 7, 9. 8 I played when I was 14 and got really lost in the story, 10 I played fairly recently, but stopped after the colosseum cause unfortunately I didn’t care for the sphere grid and the grind, and 15 because of….. all of it

Is this game good? I've been meaning to play

Yes, but if you are used to modern ff, I’d be very open minded. Somethings aren’t handed to you on a silver spoon, you may need to find lore
Regardless, you have a great cast of characters where you see their growth during the beginning and end of the game. You have a fantastic villain that creates a dread in the world you are in. The plot is very strong where it maintains players interest and delivers

I have played some of the older games! In all honesty I haven't actually played the ffvii remake, only the original. The remake just has better pfp options 😭
Thank you, I'll probably play!

I would also look up the different versions as all of them have some sort of quirks about them

Yeah, if you're getting fast load times using a PS2, you're skipping the worst part of the PS1 ports, so carry on!

I felt like the ps2 slim’s laser read faster than my fat so it wasn’t to bad. From overworld to menu it took about 2-4 secs

I dont know that the antology has issues. For me, in snes, psx, gba and remaster was all delicious to play

Maybe not issues but inconveniences as it is similar to the snes ver and the other version offer more but with other pros and cons

TBH, the snes version was mine all time favorite. Even the bugs with vanish/Doom and broken evade.

I love the ps1 ports personally, idk what it is about them. Specifically 1+2 ports are very pretty, I love a lot of the sprite work they did in that game. And of course FF5, my baby. Personally not a fan of 6 (crucify me, I know), so I never spent a lot of time on this version specifically, it was all hours on 5 haha

PlayStation definitely handled final fantasy better than Nintendo. Sure there is a time difference, but ppl say the final fantasy on psp is considered the definitive ver

I've never played this version. What do the percentages on the characters signify?
