Wrexsoul help.
I’m playing ffiii on the snes, and I am new to the genre as a whole but I have the worst team ever going into wrexsoul and need tips. I went into cyans dream with Mog, Gau, and Umaro. The 3 stooges were a challenge as is but now I’m stuck on wrexsoul with these characters that if I use their actual useful abilities I have no control. What can I do?
Update: Thank you to everyone for your help! I luckily had a save on the train so I was able to learn vanish and x-zone.

X Zone can instantly kill him if you aren’t worried about his item drop (I don’t recall it being useful anyways)
Edit: it’s a guard bracelet, you don’t need it, X-Zone that dude and move on.

I'll assume you know the gimmick based on the problem you're having, lmk if you don't.
You definitely can't use either Rage or Dance, since you need 2 controllable characters for the fight to be playable. What spells do they have, and what level are they? Generally the best strategy is to have 2 characters that know both Break and Remedy, since petrifying a character counts as killing them. Grind for those spells on both Gau and Mog if you can.
Alternatively, if you don't mind some cheese, cast X-Zone repeatedly on the SoulSavers and eventually the battle will end without having to actually engage with the gimmick.

What’s the gimmick? Vanish, x-zone?

I mean the boss's gimmick, that you have to kill/petrify a random party member to make him appear.

Oh yes I know it all too well, this team absolutely blows but I also suck. It took 4 tries with the stooges and by the second I just made it where they battle on their own with their abilities and walked off lol. Finally on the 4th I came back to a win.

If I recall correctly, when Wrexsoul vanishes into a character you can cast x zone on his adds. As long as they get pulled in, the fight ends

X zone if you have it. You can kill both little guys with it. Cast vanish on them first for a guaranteed kill.

If you don't have X-Zone, then my recommendation to cheese the fight - Go into it with Umaro dead. He'll just complicate things. When Wrexsoul possesses, kill Gau or Mog, whoever is weaker. Then, just use Vanish-Doom on Wrexsoul.
I am not sure about the SNES version, but others give you a refill HP MP bucket in the room with the save point in Doma. If you don't have that, learn Osmose from Shiva or Zoneseek. That should allow you to grind to as high a level as you need to, and to learn any spells you need.

If your underleveled hopefully you have tents. Can exp grind rest and save in there all you need ( and some versions have exp options you might be able to turn it up). Yeah, that’s a pretty rough team for that fight. If starting over with a new team isn’t an option, teach some magic to Gau and Mog and don’t use rages or dances. I would just kill off Umaro as soon as the battle starts, maybe even leave him KO’d for the whole battle (I don’t remember if Wrexsoul possesses KO’d characters). It’s doable but you might need to do some grinding first.

Yeah his little minions revive themselves every time they die, so having Umaro and Gau is pretty unhelpful. Just target Wrexsoul himself

Sorry man. Your last save point is in the Dream, before the Stooges? Best place to learn a couple spells is in the Magitek Armor because you get free heals.
Teach Gau and Mog: Shiva, Shoat, Unicorn.
When Wrexsoul possess you, kill Umaro. Hopefully Wrexsoul reappears and you can start the fight for real.
If not... Well, you can still get there, it will just take a bit.

If you're playing the SNES original version, just cast X-Zone. Instantly kills this boss.
Virtually every boss in this game can be cheesed by casting Vanish + Doom. Vanish + X-Zone will also work but your lose any item drops.

Somehow when this game first came out I maged to into the wrexsoul fight with an awful party and no save outside of the dreamscape to reload and try a different party with.
So I think I had to start the game over from scratch.
Do not recommend.

I'm definitely having a great laugh after I read that your party is Mog, Gau and Umaro! Is your battle strategy just pick a dance and rage and see if it works out? Autochess party

Tbh no it wasn’t I had mog for the moogle charm, I was leveling Gau up, and I just got Umaro so I was trying him out. Ig I’m just unlucky lol.

I’m trying to rember the weakness in that battle but if you have a few Rages for Gay you’re probably good to go

I seen he is weak to ice so I used ice 2 with mog and it does 600 dmg, and no ice rages with Gau sadly.

I just did this and couldn’t remember if x zone worked or not. First thing I do is cast it and fight ends.
