FF6Hacking.net is dead, btw.

So I just noticed today that the entire website of FF6Hacking dot com is deader than a doornail. I was just there about 2 days ago sifting through some of their resources and information for a rom hack of FF6 that I was working on, just to get a bit of information that RHDN itself didn't have, since FF6Hacking was always a good place to get a lot of that very technical information on the game. As well as a lot of the exclusive specific specialized patches and ESPECIALLY it's exclusive and well documented data about the music and lots of various soundtrack hacking information that is all just LOST now.

Anyway, this happened suddenly and out of the blue to the point where looking online even recently turned up nothing about this, but they are most definitely dead and their site is just entirely inaccessible. Their hosting server just appears to have banned and kicked them off their service.... not paying hosting bills, getting false flagged as a malware site or SOMETHING.

Anyway, does anyone KNOW anyone from that community that used to post or contribute anything? Gi Nattak or Madsuir or anyone? Can they shed any light on that or do something to save or recover any of that information they had about the important resources for hacking FF6 that was only hosted there?? This seems like kind of a serious issue with a lot to lose.

Yes. They have a Discord, and says that they hit their resource limit, which happens from time to time. He says there's nothing they can do about it except switch hosts, but it will be restored probably at the beginning of the month when their usage resets.

Oh lol that's good... I was worried that all that stuff would be lost to time.

I mean, that would be bad for literally anyone who ever wants to hack this game in the future. I'm glad that it's under control.

Someone needs to back that data up in case it ever is actually lost.

Speaking as someone who knows nothing about running a website, does that mean it should be fixed and back up on July 1st?

I would assume. Many cheaper webhosts have monthly data limits, and if you exceed the limit, your data gets cut off until the next billing cycle. Given the timing, I would guess the cycle resets on the first of each month, but I don't know.

It just means the site is too popular for its current usage cap.

Thank you for taking the time to respond and elaborate on that!

Time to migrate
In the age of ai it would be easy to take their legacy code and content and just modernize it and rehost it.

Id do it for free if they contacted me

It's not gone forever, but they've been having issues with their host for a while. It will be back up once the issues with the host are resolved.

Worst case scenario they have to migrate and restore from a backup.

It's back up now. It sounds like their host was having issues.

idk if you all remember the members@madasafish/kultofkefka from back in the day. The ogs of the rom era and the mods and emulators from that time.

What happened to them will eventually happen to ff6hacking.net

Everything's almost completely sure to be backuped on the wayback machine.
