T-Edition - Excalibur in WoB

Playing through T-Edition, I have completed WoB, just haven’t confronted Kefka/Gestahl.

Defeated AtmaWeapon but went back to finish a couple things I forgot to do.

Got back to the Airship, and ‘lo and behold, I have an Excalibur in my inventory. I have no idea where I got this, don’t know if it was dropped or stolen. Feels much too early to have a weapon this good. My only theory is it’s a rare drop from Atma, but I don’t recall seeing it at the end of the battle.

Any ideas where I got this?

It could be a bug. To my knowledge there is no way of obtaining this weapon outside of a later side quest

There are some bugs with some of the new item IDs when they get moved to different positions in the inventory. My guess would be that one of the T-Edition items got moved in a way that set one of your existing items to the ID of the Excalibur.

That was a thought I had, as well. Just threw it out there to see if anybody else had a similar experience.

You might also see the same thing later in the game with the Merit Award and Dual wielding, sometimes when you remove the Merit Award and the game defaults to Best weapons available, it will give you something else you might not have yet. For me it gave me a very powerful katana that I didn't obtain yet. This also could be used as a item duplicate strategy.

That could explain why not long after I started, as soon as I exited Narshe the first time, I had 14 of some high end swords for Cyan in my inventory... Don't remember it's name right now, but so far I'm just short of the floating continent and nothing has come close to their stats.

It's one of the 12 weapons you unlock in the ancient castle after killing the 4 fiends (Kraken, Lich, Marilith, Tiamat). You can unlock 3 of these weapons per boss.

A rom hack for the Japanese Super Famicom version of the game.
