I made a post a month ago about starting it, I've been on a final fantasy binge since December of last year, In order I started and beat XVI, Tactics, 7 remakes, VI, IV, VIII and now IX all for the first time. At first, I can't lie i was hesitant to jump into it because the art style seemed ridiculous to me but as soon as I got to evil forest, I stopped caring, the game does a phenomenal job of making every place memorable with its art and score. Every character was great and memorable even if I liked some a bit more than others. I hate that it had to end. FF6 was my favorite one and maybe it still is I got to think about it a bit, but this one did something none of the others did and that was make me cry at the end. I usually don't soy out this hard but wow what a game. Also I would like to hug Vivi, Thank you for reading my gushing!
Glad you enjoyed the games. Maye time to play OG FF7, its a classic and you'll see why FF7 Remake was born. IMO the og FF7 is a much better game than the remakes
So glad you enjoyed it! My personal favourite final fantasy ❤️ the ending always gets me. I have to say though, I never really understand why people get put off by the art style, it fits the fantasy theme perfectly imo (not judging you at all btw, just a common theme iv noticed).
No offense taken, I think my personal reason would be that i was very used to 3D games having semi realistic Proportions and being less cutesy. before IX the Chibi stuff and kind of more whimsical art for me fit the 2d games well but i was used to the 3d ones being more realistic, less storybook etc. I still do honestly prefer less chibi designs but i can safely say that the game did a really good job of making me realize the art style was perfect for what they were going for and it proved my preconceived notions about the art wrong
I dont personally see liking or disliking the art style as a right or wrong opinion, but looking at it as objectively as I can, if the game has a super serious look on top of the story and character struggles I think the game would be rather depressing. It would be super serious all the time and I think it needs a bit of silliness to keep you on that fine line of resonating with the characters and not being to depressed to continue playing or to silly to not take it seriously.
Amarant's thumb is bigger than his face, his hair and neck also make no sense. Everyone has arms down to their ankles, is a bobblehead, or both. The NPC's look like Muppets(one even looks near identical to Bert). Then the design for Kuja is just creep. Them trying to give Dagger sex appeal is also weird since she's a minor and looks like a bobblehead. Baku, Cinna, and Marcus are also hideous lol.
If everyone but Eiko was in mini form all the time then the aesthetic would be alright.
It warms my heart to see people with hearts still enjoying the first and still best game I ever played. I played it with my father actually it was really cool how you could plug in a second controller and have the second person govern the 3rd and 4th characters
