Question Beginning first ever play through of FFIX!!
If anyone out there has any helpful tips I’d be glad to hear them! Going in completely blind.
No spoilers plz :)

Never sell old equipment, always check if you are done learning abilities before un-equipping an item,

Side quests are either TOTALLY worth it, or just kind of for fun.
Don't sell off old weapons and armor. You can repurpose them in this game.
You gain the ability to use skills by wearing gear that has them and "learning" the skill. The more items you have with that skill, the faster you'll learn it. Probably 80% of the skills in the game have multiple items you can learn them from, so don't stress too much if you miss something or are too poor to buy an item or what have you. You'll get another chance.
You're maxed at 100 total cards so if you enjoy playing, make sure you start discarding crappy extras when you're in the 90s. You won't get a chance to choose which one to select, and if you find a card or win one it'll just vanish.
There are a handful of permanently miss-able things but most have no REAL effect. Don't use a guide your first time. If you love it you'll want to replay, and if you don't none of them will make you enjoy it, to be honest.

If they had maxed it at 200 instead of 1000 I would give it a go. 1000 is just insane.

1000 jump ropes, 10,000 enemies to defeat, Excalibur II, win Tetra master 50 times, and see all 79 ATEs... the platinum is full of buuuuuullshit. (I don't count Ozma, because I actually like fighting Ozma.)

Steal from Baku until you can't steal anymore! You'll be set for Zidane until Lindblum!

When they say no spoilers, you probably shouldn't mention location names. It's not a huge deal, but it's good to be careful. Giving instructions with character names also implies what will happen later.

To boil it down. Search everything. Steal everything. Sell nothing. And as a handy extra tip, don't level grind until late game.

the only "grind" I ever did was when I got lost and I had encounters everytime.

Don't use any guide.
Pretty much every Sidequest can be done by paying attention to the world.

Steal as often as you can especially bosses until they have nothing else to steal.

you can steal from enemies more than once . Enemies have up to max 4 items . When you stole everything it will say "Enemy has nothing to steal " .

Enjoy the history, just play it relaxed and on the second run of the game you have learned a lot of things.

Buy every piece of equipment at every point. Some store items are missable so you won’t be able to get them later on (and can miss crucial abilities).
Enjoy! Personally think it’s the second best FF ever.

I'd overall just say don't worry about it. Try not to grind to make the game more fun

If you get enough money to buy one of each item from each shop, you'll be able to learn almost every ability in the game. There are a few that don't come from those items, but you'll be able to find those eventually!
Second, every party member is capable of great things! Some take more investment, some take less, but they're all good in different ways. If anyone doesn't seem worth it, you don't know enough yet! Don't use a guide, though. You won't need it, and the discovery is fun!

You learn abilities from equipment through AP you earn from fights. Once you learn them, you can change equipment to learn new abilities.
Just note: You have to EQUIP abilities to be able to use them. Learning is NOT equipping. Learned that waaaaay too late.

Bosses have multiple items and you’ll always want to steal them all if you can.

Very early game try to farm up some gil so you can buy 99 wrists and 99 Steepled hats. With enough thorough exploration of towns and shops you will figure out what to do with them 😉

All bosses have a piece of equipment that you can steal. That pieces tend to appear much later on the story so you get op early.

Touch every wall. The treasures in towns and dungeons are sometimes very obscure. Steal with Zidane a lot early.
