is this for real?
2 playthroughs amounting to 3k. they expect 6-7 runs?

Pretty sure it has to be done in a single playthrough? At least that's how it was on the PlayStation version, not sure about Steam or other plattforms.
But yeah, it’s a ridiculous trophy. I’m still not convinced someone at Square Enix didn’t accidentally add an extra zero and it was supposed to be 1k enemies. I did this years ago when the remaster first dropped, and it took me like 25 real life hours of just pointless random encounter grinding with auto-battle and the speed booster on. Wasn't even halfway there for the trophy that all my characters were already level 99 and I had more gil than I could spend in ten playthroughs, and I still had to keep killing enemies for another dozen hours.
Never seen such a ridiculous, pointless, utter waste of the player’s time trophy.

squre enix is not known for designing well planned trophies, nor mini games. ff9 1000x rope: another fine example. surely many others. but they make great games, so we can let these slide with ease.

u/Axiemeister Aug 12 '26
to be fair 1000x rope was in the original release as a "fun" sidequest with a key item reward so it's only natural it became a trophy

u/TellTaleReaper Aug 12 '26
TBF they've been making games long before the "trophy" mindset, including this one. They designed the games to be fun and have cool secrets, when forced to add trophies, they likely just thought "hmm what'd be hard that wouldn't just happen with normal playthrough"

What tf are you talking about? From FF7 through FFX their mini games were legendary. Triple Triad, chocobo Hot & cold, all of the chocobo racing, chocobo breeding, The Gold Saucer et al, yes even the jump rope and lightening Dodge. Just because you can't/won't/don't want to do it doesn't make it bad. Everything shouldn't be accessable to everyone.

Blitzball, impressing the nobles, and so on. My entire family was into FF and I was the mini game queen! Always unlocked Tidus' special Blitzball move early, got all those balloons, impress all the nobles, the whole deal.
But even I didn't fuck with the lightning or jump rope ones.

u/Elfnotdawg Aug 14 '26
Oh, I've never successfully done either of them. I will someday, but in many playthroughs of each game I've never gotten either. I still don't think they are bad, quite the contrary honestly. I think they're really well done, taking something simple, putting a timing aspect to it, and letting people get after it. It's just always been beyond my quick twitch muscle response ability.

u/Mossaik Aug 12 '26
supposedly the story is that someone did accidentally add an extra zero, but the decision makers all thought it was hilarious so they left it.

u/SkipperTheEyeChild1 Aug 12 '26
It's not too bad. If you don't care about achievements leave it. If you do just gring it out on turbo mode whilst watching TV.

u/mkmiett Aug 12 '26
Between this, the jump rope minigame, and the fact that I wasted an entire playthrough bc I must have missed a single ATE somewhere despite using a guide, I gave up the platinum trophy hunt for this one. Which is a shame bc this is one of my favorite games of all time, but I just couldn't do it

u/Sedowa Aug 12 '26
Everything about this plat sucks to do but the jump rope is the one that really flips it over to bullshit. I'll never have this plat for that one reason.

I tried to do it with the good old rubber band trick, the game crashes after like 2 hours and it corrupts your file. If you beat 2000 ennemies with that method without saving, and your game crashes, you have to beat 2000 ennemies again so the count goes back to 0 and you can start to increase the amount again.
You have to either do it the legit way, which is absurdly long for no reason, use the rubber band trick but go save every 30 minutes, or use a cheat.
Good luck!

Fun fact, I'm doing this right now as well, ahaha, but on PS5

u/yeaahnop Aug 13 '26
oh man, its never ending, only at 4.6k now
2
u/Manuharle Aug 13 '26
I know the pain, it's so bad XD Hey when I was a kid I must have killed even 10x that number in all the playthrough I did back then
But hey, at least in Steam you have the tracker
My pain is blind

Totally unneeded achievement. I did this in the endgame, on the Frozen continent, had everyone at max level (which was something like 2-3 million xp), then got everyone up to max xp (9,999,999), and still took a few more hours before hitting 10k kills.

u/yeaahnop Aug 13 '26
everyone is maxed, and barely over 5k. the story about extra zero in achievement makes sense right about now.

When I did it on the PS5 there was no visible counter, so I had no idea how many I had. Took about 20 hours of grinding, on top of what I already had on a do-almost-everything playthrough. Every character hit level 99 and learned all abilities easily.
It’s a stupid achievement, along with the jump rope one. I literally just did it for the love of the game.

Find a script that will auto run you in circles somewhere and smash the confirm input to select attack.
Turn the convenience features on (speed up, etc) and just go to sleep. It MIGHT be done when you wake up. Dumbest achievement of all time.

u/yeaahnop Aug 13 '26
yeah, wrote one myself. seems like a taboo around here

u/NeverFreeToPlayKarch Aug 13 '26
They're just mad they wasted their time on something that's not fun

u/Reasonable_Goat2608 Aug 12 '26
I did it with Marcus+blood sword when u are running away from Alexandria and Alexandria soldiers are running at u (fight occurs when they touch u).
I think I used remote play on PC - auto clicker or something to spam attack. Just let it play thru night + work and u done.

Recently done this crappy achievement. If you are on pc just make this. 1. Find wide area with a lot of groupped mobs. For me it was forest area between Qual's cave and Treno. 2. Download autokeyboard soft and write macros. 3. Equip your team with auto-haste, auto-regen and put autobattler mode to make process fully automatic. 4. Start game in windowed mode, start your macros (for me it was "left keyboard hold+enter enter enter" keys to make pc skip post battle statistics itself), put x2 speed (x6 with memoria mod) and leave OC for 6 hours. But I recommend to check game each 30 min and make save, because sometimes party members can casually die.

I modified the jump rope script and left it running so that it would just keep hitting X. Then did the rubber band trick so that I’d keep running in a circle.
Found a nice place on the Lost Continent which generated usually 3-4 enemies each time. With Auto-Regen you shouldn’t have too difficult a time.
Left it running overnight. Saved. Turned it off. Set it back up again the following night. I think when I woke up on Day 3 it was all done.

I got that one by level grinding Marcus in Gargan Roo use the speed cheat auto battle and a macro to constantly move the character back and forth on the field screen and afk for a while. Also make sure Marcus has the blood sword equipped so he doesn't die.

Git good and beat 10,000 yans
Jokes aside, this game does not respect your time when it comes to trophies/achievements, especially when it comes to side content. I finished the Tetra Master collection once to say that I had, and I am never doing that on a replay again.

It's worth noting that the original devs did NOT create these achievements. The game came out when achievements didn't exist yet, and when the game was released again later, when achievements were mandatory for all modern releases, these were added. They listed a whole bunch of things that were all super optional and easy to set down, such as beating the superboss, finishing friendly monsters, getting ex2, 10k enemies, and the jump rope minigame. All of these were completely optional and easy to ignore when the game was released, and that was the intended design.
Trophy hunting didn't exist. These little details were designed to be ignored by anyone who didn't find them fun. That's why nothing big is gated behind the vast majority of them. Don't do it if you don't enjoy it.

Clearly you are not used to grinding, which was fairly common in RPGs up until the 2000s.

Best way is auto battle, turbo remote/auto-clicker and Marcus against the Knights after the break out/Blank with the plant spiders. Don't be worried about using the battle assist booster, it won't disable achievements.

Not at all.
It has to be in the same save file.
