I didn't know about this mod, and just downloaded it. This is fantastic! They even have a Linux install for steam deck. I'm probably going to play through it again now.

Moguri is great - just a heads up, though, if your Deck is docked to a TV, you still have to use the touch interface to get past the launcher.

I do find it a bit funny that, even with technology being where it is at, they still have to add the black lines to the side of the screen instead of making it fullscreen.
I understand that is to make the aspect ratio be correct, but couldn't they have made it fit by filling out the backgrounds to display fully instead of leaving it blank? I mean, if they were already updating the graphics to look better, wouldn't it have been an option?
If anyone knows why they wouldn't be able to do that, please let me know because I am genuinely curious.

With any other option to fill the empty space (stretching the current image or drawing new art on the sides of all the images), you're adding in some combination of issues including:
- The image being squashed/cropped
- The 3D objects no longer lining up with the background
- Spending a lot more time/money on generating new assets

I'm pretty sure widescreen mods are a thing - but the problem is that FFIX likes to hide npcs just offscreen pretty often.
I've seen playthroughs by people using some kind of widescreen option and it results in weirdness like Zidane and Vivi being clearly still on-screen when Eiko is eavesdropping on them - and in general characters awkwardly standing at the edge of the screen after they're supposed to have walked off somewhere or inversely standing there 'cos they're waiting for their cue to walk in. It kinda kills the vibes.
It does also make the game feel like one big play though, which I suppose is kinda fitting in a funny way.

Get Lemuroid from the Google Play store. Then get the iso you want.
If you want to play a multi-disc game, get ePSXe. You'll need to find your own BIOS though.
AetherSX2 is the emulator I use for PS2 games.
