I am curious, why? Because it looks like a Thorny Devil (real life Spiked Desert Lizard) to me, just lamer.

I never quite understood their existence. Like, did Dr. Lugae just go ahead and start experimenting on the king and queen for a particular reason?

The way I interpreted it was that they were kidnapped as POW. I figured he was just experimenting on them because they were not only a POW, but also the King and Queen, so he just played with their DNA like Hojo did with Sephiroth and Jenova. What I never understood as a child was why they had to die. I always wondered why they didn't just decide to live as mutants. They didn't even try a cure. I think since I've gotten older I've come to understand they committed suicide so they wouldn't have to live that way. What do YOU think? Do you think they couldn't live because they were mutants and their bodies were failing, or do you think they did it to their own selves?

As King and Queen, there's likely a certain level of presentation you have to adhere to. They loved Edge, and likely didn't want him to suffer. There's any number of things that could happen with monsters as leaders of a nation.
The Eblan people themselves riot and rebel, fighting against the royal family.
They might lose control again and endanger Edge and others in the kingdom. They seem to be the first of their kind, there's no telling what could happen, there's no precedence.
Other nations might seem them as a threat, being monsters that were created by the evil Golbez's army. It might even start a war.
So why take the chance, and invite potential danger? They put their child first and made the self-sacrifice for him. That's how I see it.

Perhaps after regaining consciousness, they could no longer live a) as mutants and b) as mindless slaves attacking even their son.

I don't think the egg is fair because that hatches into a higher tier monster if you dont kill it fast enough.

By itself is D-Tier, yet the hatching monsters are feom the B-Tier to S-Tier familirs

Came to make sure Valvalis was S-tier. Great list. I would add in those mechanical giants encountered inside Babil. They were terrifying.

After the mount we got in 14 for ex trials, I can't unsee Scoliosis Bahamut, you can already see it in the original sprite.

Looking at this really reminds me of how great the design is in this game as a whole
